:director: Looking at the Sixers-Pacers game

The Indiana Pacers try to start the new season with three
straight victories, as they welcome Allen Iverson and the struggling
Philadelphia 76ers tonight to Conseco Fieldhouse for their first home game of
the 2005-06 campaign.

The Pacers opened the season with a pair of road victories, as they defeated
Orlando and Miami. On Thursday, Jermaine O'Neal scored 27 points and
continuously hit big shots as the game tightened in the fourth quarter, and
the Pacers took advantage of a Shaquille O'Neal ankle injury to defeat the
Heat, 105-102, at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Ron Artest, in his second game back from last season's 73-game suspension, had
22 points in the win over Miami, as five Pacers scored in double figures.
Jamaal Tinsley chipped in 13 points and six assists for the Pacers, who
completed a two-game sweep of the Sunshine State. Indiana has beaten Miami in
13 of the last 14 regular season meetings.

Indiana begins a three-game homestand. It will also host the Heat and the New
Jersey Nets on the current stand.

The Sixers are going in the opposite direction of the Pacers, as they have
started the new season with three straight losses. On Friday, Emeka Okafor had
a double-double, finishing with 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Charlotte
Bobcats defeated Philadelphia, 110-93, at the Wachovia Center.

Iverson scored a game-high 29 points in the loss to Charlotte for the 76ers,
while Chris Webber added 20 points, including the 15,000th of his career, and
Steven Hunter chipped in 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Philadelphia shot 43 percent for the game, and was only 1-of-8 from beyond the
arc and 65 percent (24-of-37) from the foul line.

The last time the 76ers started a season with four straight losses was during
the 2001-02 campaign, when they dropped their first five games.

After tonight's contest, Philadelphia will return home for four straight
games. The Sixers will host Dallas, the Lakers, Clippers and the Toronto
Raptors on the homestand.
