Bristol at night - the best race on the schedule IMO. Also home to one of the greatest controversies of recent times when Dale Earnhardt (RIP) spun out Terry Labonte on the last lap to get the win. He was booed all the way to the winner's circle. And who will ever forget the exchange of words
Dale "I wasn't trying to spin him, just rattle his cage."
Terry "He's been a dirty driver all his career."

Rusty has done well in the past but I don't expect much from him this week. For whatever reason he hasn't been able to put a great run together at any short tracks at all. IMO, Tony Stewart is strictly the driver to beat. He won the race last year in a dominant fashion and in the short tracks this year he has had the car to beat each time.

I'm looking to play against Rusty in some qualifying matchups where I can find it. His record at Bristol in qualifying is deceiving. He has been great there in the past but he's been very poor at qualifying in 2002. In fact in the 3 short track races this year he has a 5th, a 9th and a 15th starting position. 2 years ago he had 8 pole positions, this year he hasn't come close to a pole. If I can find someone like Newman, Dale Jr or Stewart to bet against him with I will.

My guess to win the pole position is Newman.

3 qualifying plays for this race (strictly value plays)

1- Stewart +140 over Rusty Wallace. A totally insane line. Stewart has outqualified Rusty in 80% of the races this year and even on the short tracks he's outqualified him twice. Plus in testing for this race, Stewart was fastest.
The lower front spoiler they have allowed the Pontiac's will really show up for this race and I truly believe Stewart will win the pole and the race.

2- Nadeau +120 over Hamilton. Again Nadeau is a better qualifier. No doubt that Hamilton is a much better qualifier on short tracks than he is on the superspeedways, but Nadeau also qualifies well on short tracks. In fact Nadeau has outqualified Hamilton in 3/4 of his races on short tracks in the past 3 years.

3- Sadler +105 over Skinner. Sadler tends to do well at short track qualifying (remember he won his only race on a short track). Skinner can qualify 39th just as easily as he can 4th. And the #4 Kodak car has never qualified well on short tracks.

GL to all.

I tried to locate info on testing for this race but couldn't find any. Where is such info available? Can Myron or another member help guide me there?
Thanks.

Scooterone try winston cup or Nascar. The old www.nascar.com. One of those works.
For match ups this week. Im looking to see what value I can get with Martin,Stewart,J Gordon vs just about anyone. But not against each other. I just feel no reck takes these guys out. One of them will win. Oh yes becarfull going against 29 and 88 right now because they got some luck working for them.

This will hopefully be the last week I burden you people with the following question: does anyone have to start in the back due to penalty?

I found (hopefully) a place where I can watch H. Hour on the Speed Channel, but I missed the 1st half hour this week.

I know that E. Sadler starts in the back.

Does anyone know of anyone else so penalized?

i haven't seen anyone else having to go to the back. at a track like bristol where the 43rd car is over 1/2 a lap down even before they start it is pretty significant.

sometimes you just can't get the info. if a team decides to change the engine late in the afternoon or someone misses the pre-race drivers meeting most likely the first we will hear about it is as they are lining up for the start.

mike skinner also starting from the rear today. they found something wrong in the engine last night, and will be changing it before the race.

i like the 24 and the 2 car today. they are way overdue and one of them should break out for their first victory of the season today. but it's bristol, so anything can happen.

Great info, Doug. Thanks!

The J. Johnson info is mind boggling. Didn't hear or read of this to date until your post.
As mentioned, I watched 2/3 of H. Hour and didn't hear word one of this.

If you don't mind sharing this - how did you find out about Johnson and Skinner?

Thanks again,

Scooter

i found out about johnson watching qualifying on tv. they mentioned it then. and i watched the nascar show this morning, pre-race show, and they mentioned skinner then and even interviewed him about it. he was pretty bummed. i'm also in a good fantasy league, that "ned jarrett fantasy cup auto racing" one, and they give real good up-to-the-minute info on everyone. they have it all there. i didn't have alot of luck gambling, so i kind of switched to fantasy leagues instead. my first year i won a grand, believe it or not. all for a $40 investment. but they are alot of fun, and you don't lose alot if you don't do well. nascar.com has one also, runs the whole season. join now and try it out, so you'll be ready for a full season next year.

Sorry about those qualifying plays fellows. Stewart got screwed with a bad draw (going out first after a rain delay) and Sadler just plain sucked. Nadeau and Hamilton finished back to back. As for Johnson he won't win but he was supposed to start 32nd anyways. To be honest a new engine might actually be worth the 11 positions he has to lose at the start if it is better than he ran in qualifying.

Anyways for tonight I have 2 plays and 3 matchups

Jeff Gordon to win at 5/1
Ricky Rudd to win at 20/1
Also played Ryan Newman at 25/1 before qualifying but wouldn't touch him at less than 15/1.

Matchups:
- Mayfield over Blaney
- Nemechek over Brett Bodine
- Craven over Todd Bodine
- Rusty Wallace over Dale Jr (WWTS)
- Ryan Newman over Kurt Busch (WWTS)
- Ward Burton over Johnny Benson (WWTS)

GL to all

Well after the race I thought old Rusty would be a little pissed. But he knows at this track because he has done it him self. The bumb and run is used. His car got just a tad slower those last 4 laps. Godon had him covered. And had it been the other way. Yes Rusty would have used the bumb and run. He knows that. He's just mad at himself for getting caught up in traffic right there in those last 4 laps. And he did not handle that traffic well.

More good info, doug. Thanks. I may give fantasy racing a shot.

I watched nascar qualifying on TNT, and MISSED the info on J. Johnson starting from the back (which seems to be par for the course for him these days). Thanks for passing that on.

I'm just getting up to speed on some of this stuff, so I have another probably pretty basic question for you (or anyone else).
You say "and i watched the nascar show this morning, pre-race show, and they mentioned skinner then and even interviewed him about it."
Can you be more specific about which nascar pre-race show and what channel it's on? Speed? ESPN 2?

Check speed channel everynight to. Seems to have something on Nascar every night.
And Ask all the guestions you like. Thats what this place is about. If I didn't count on 1837 for Formul 1, I would be chit out of luck. I know nothing much about it. So I Pay attention to him. For Nascar I read what everyone puts in here. I always say your never to old to learn something new. So ask all you want. I hope someone can answer.
