MLB parlays this season: 1-22, +6.0 units (risk 1 unit each pick)... winner #1 posted Monday, August 14th...

ripped, cut and pasted, otherwise written by others, from across the internets:

The set-up: Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run HR in Arizona's 4-3 victory over the Giants on Friday, securing the third 30-HR, 100-RBI season of his career. Goldschmidt (30 HRs & 101 RBI) has eight HRs and 23 RBI this month, giving himself a chance to surpass his previous career bests of 36 HRs and 123 RBI set in 2013. The D'backs' win gives them a 1 1/2 game lead over the Rockies for the NL's top wild card and puts them five games clear of the NL playoff 'cut line.' San Francisco has dropped four of its last six overall, is an awful 21-43 away from home and owns MLB's worst overall moneyline mark at minus-$3049.

The pitching matchup: Madison Bumgarner (3-5 & 2.87 ERA) continues what has been a 'nightmare' season for him on Saturday, opposed by Arizona's Taijuan Walker (6-7 & 3.66 ERA). Bumgarner's season was interrupted by dirt-bike accident in April. He is 3-2 with a 2.81 ERA in eight outings since coming off the disabled list back in July but despite a 2.87 ERA in 12 starts this season, the Giants are 3-9, with his moneyline mark of minus-$1148 ranking just ahead of teammate Matt Moore's minus-$1159. Bumgarner is 9-8 with a 2.58 ERA in 28 career appearances (27 starts / team is 15-12) against Arizona, including 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA in two 2017 outings. Walker is win-less in his last 10 starts (0-4) since defeating Colorado back on June 21. He is 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in three starts against the Giants this season and 2-1 with a 3.75 ERA in four career outings (teams are 2-2).

The pick: Bumgarner is an outstanding pitcher suffering from a lack of support and luck. He's allowed only nine earned runs while striking out 36 in 38 innings (2.13 ERA) in his last six starts. Meanwhile, the D'backs are just 3-7 in Walker's 10-game win-less stretch. Let's 'vote' for Bumgarner in this one.

I like the South Florida Bulls to waltz through San Jose and dominate the Spartans, wire-to-wire.

The Bulls, the first ranked team to take the field this season, are playing their first game under their new coach, Charlie Strong, in a matchup of coaches making their debut.

San Jose State is now under the direction of Brent Brennan.

South Florida has made it no secret it is using this game to justify its preseason ranking and can make an early case as the best team from the Group of Five conferences, with a blowout win.

The Spartans won't have an answer for quarterback Quinton Flowers, the 2016 American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year who was one of the most productive players in the nation as a junior, when he rushed for a school-record 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns while firing for 2,812 yards and 24 touchdowns versus a mere eight interceptions.

And the Spartans will surely will struggle moving the ball against South Florida'a improved defense that allowed 31.6 points per game last season.

Mayweather / McGregor Over 4.5 Rounds

I know this juice is high, but if you take a breath and think about both fighters there is no way this fight ends in 5 rounds or less. Mayweather has one of the best boxing defenses I have ever seen in the boxing ring, and his boxing style will bother McGregor early and often. If anybody is getting KO'd it will be in the later rounds, and I believe this 4.5 Round Prop should be around -600 or higher. I know this fight is a circus, and the cost to watch this fight is outrageous, but there are two great undercard fights on the card as well. It wouldn't shock me to see this mega-fight go the distance, and this fight will see the later rounds.

Madison Bumgarner gets his 9th start since coming back from injury, and by some metrics he is pitching better than when he got hurt. In the second half of the season he is allowing just a .225 BAA, 1.05 WHIP, and is carrying a 2.81 ERA. He?s faced Arizona twice already this season with fantastic results. In two starts he?s allowed 5 earned runs over 14 innings pitched with a stellar 18/2 K/BB rate. Bumgarner is tough on righties, with a .224 batting average allowed ? a fact that makes this a good matchup against the Diamondbacks? lineup.

Taking the mound for the Diamondbacks is Taijuan Walker who has continued to improve over last year in every respect. The most important improvement when looking at overall league trends is his drop in HR/FB% from 17.6% to 11.4% this year. Walker has faced the Giants twice this year with some success, and is coming off of a start against the Mets in which he gave up no runs over 5.1 innings pitched. The Giants are one of the worst offenses in the league, so I don?t think they?ll be the ones to break his seven-game streak of giving up 4 runs or less. With the total at a reasonable 9 at Heritage I?ll be taking the Under as one of my Saturday MLB Picks of the Day.
Free MLB Pick: Under 9 Runs

Ross Stripling of the Dodgers burst onto the scene last year after almost throwing a no-hitter in his first MLB start. He went 5-9 on the year overall with a 3.90 FIP. This year he has been relegated to relief duty as the 7th or 9th option for starting, but with the Dodgers starting pitcher situation due to injury he?ll get the start here. Stripling is a left-handed specialist and holds southpaws to just a .192 BAA. He has trouble against right-handers though and allows a .294 BAA in relief against them. This favors the Milwaukee lineup, who should be able to put at least 7 right-handers in who will face Stipling multiple times.

Milwaukee will start Zack Davies, who has found a way to win 14 games this season with a 4.40 FIP. His strikeouts are slightly down from last year, but all other peripherals look to be stable. The last time he faced the Dodgers was in early June, when he pitched six innings of shutout ball with a 6/1 K/BB rate and picked up the win. Any win against the Dodgers this year is tough, so I put more weight into this single start than I normally would. With Stripling having some vulnerabilities I will back Davies on the moneyline as one of my Saturday MLB selection.
