welcome back, loyal readers. both of you!! been treading water so far this season. let's try to get on the winning track.

mich (+5) 2 units. really like the wolverines here. the only thing keeping it from a 3-unit play (besides nd's 6-1 ATS record the last 7 games in this series) is the 3 starters on the offensive line making their first road start. that inexperience killed penn state last week in south bend. one big diffence... michigan comes in with a veteran qb who has already started a game at nd. 2 years ago, chad henne made his first road start right here. not bad numbers, either... 25 of 40 for 240 yards, one td, one pick. 2 returning starters in the defensive secondary (2 more than psu had) will also help.

fresno st (-3) 2 units. as much as i hate laying road chalk, i think fresno is flat-out the better team here. my only concern is that the bulldogs are still hung over after their loss to oregon last week. remember what happened to them after their disappointing loss at usc last year. i think that factor will be offset by the beating washington took against oklahoma last week. the sooners just wore down the huskies, outscoring them in the second half 24-0 until a meaningless touchdown with a minute and a half left in the game. i look for fresno to put up their normal solid effort against the pac ten and come out of here with a win.

UAB (+17) 2 units. uab lost an outstanding (and vastly underrated, in my opinion) qb in darrell hackney. but his two replacements have combined to go 28/40 for 368 yards, 3 td's and no picks in the first two games of the season. solid numbers, especially considering they opened at oklahoma. the blazers believe they can play with the big boys. they never trailed by more than 7 against the sooners. now they go to georgia, where they lost 16-13 in 2003 (has it really been 3 years since that game?). oh, by the way... chris williams (who started last week against east carolina) was the blazers' starting qb in that game. georgia's freshman qb, matt stafford, looked like the real deal, entering the game in relief last week. but he is still green. uab should keep this game close.

lsu (+3.5) 2 units. yes, i expected lsu to be completely flat against arizona last week. no, i didn't expect the f---ing wildcats to stomp on the tiger logo before the game. just couldn't let sleeping dogs (or tigers) lie, could you, you stupid wildcats? so hopefully my read on this lsu team isn't way off base. the tigers are 12-3-1 ATS on the road the last 3 years. should be a very tight, defensive struggle, decided by a field goal. strong lean to the under, as well.

constructive comments are always welcome.

GL to all.

adding central michigan (-1) 2 units. the chips have covered 3 of the last 4 against akron. akron coming off 2 tough road games (including the huge win at nc st). sneed ran for 183 yards on 21 carries against the zips last year.

and i made a mistake in my first post. chris williams started the opener against oklahoma and came off the bench against east carolina.
