ohio st (-21) 1 unit. it's incredible how much flak tressel took after last week's game. holy crap, for them to stay that close to usc is amazing. if he tried to get into a track meet with usc, they would have been blown out. he probably did just about as much as he could have to give his team a chance to win. maybe people just still don't realize the disparity between usc and, well, the entire big ten. anyway, back to this game... toledo is going to find osu a little stiffer challenge than colorado was last week.
minnesota (+13.5) 2 units. i'll start by saying i hate this play. absolutely hate it. minnesota was fortunate to beat air force last week. and we have another pac ten/big ten matchup. i'm having a hard time imagining the gophers hanging around in this game. but the line drop from 14 to 13.5 is suspicious, with everybody on cal.
southern miss (-14) 3 units. this is the line that really jumped out at me this week. would southern miss even be laying 2 TD's to duke? i mean, they just beat a weak central florida team by 7. but their run defense has been very stout the first two games, giving up 15 yards on 27 carries to ucf and 62 yards on 27 carries to, yes, alcorn state. for those keeping score at home, they're allowing 1.4 yds/rush. that's significant, because sewell can't hit the broadside of a barn. as long as southern miss holds down virginia's ground game, the cavs will struggle to score.
cincinnati (-1.5) 1 unit. cincy is now favored? wow. that's quite a swing. i gotta go with the bearcats.
byu (-8) 1 unit. as much as i love picturing the mormons walking around vegas every year for their bowl game, i also love picturing the fsu criminals prowling the streets of provo last night.
i would really like arizona today against iowa (along with the under in that game), but the wildcats have a revenge game with oregon state on deck (they lost on a last-second field goal), so no play.
