michigan (-6.5) 2 units. i've come full circle on this game, which is usually the kiss of death. but this line is SCREAMING for byu money. it's gonna be tough for the cougs to bounce back after last week. the only byu game i've watched this season was the nebraska game, but they tackled very poorly. and if this quote from mendenhall this week is any indication, they haven't gotten any better. "We have a long ways to go in terms of tackling." rudock may not have to throw a single pass today. i look for the wolverines to grind out a very solid win.
bowling green (-3.5) 2 units. if hazell was smart (hahaha), purdue's new starting qb would not throw a single pass today. jones & knox can grind out long possessions against a horrible bg defense, which would keep johnson & company off the field. but if hazell was smart, they would have pounded the ball in the 4th quarter and won the game at marshall. when (not if, but when) bg scores a few tds and takes the lead, if purdue starts throwing the ball, bg is just going to pull away for an easy win. oh, and i don't know if a home dog would actually overlook their opponent, but purdue is at michigan st next week.
arkansas st (+7) 2 units
arkansas st (ML) 1 unit to win 2.1. lemme get this straight... toledo has already beaten arkansas and iowa st, and now they're only laying a td to a team that has one win? over missouri st? oh, and toledo beat ak st in the bowl game last year 63-44? wow, this looks like a perfect trap game for toledo, because they also open conference play next week. i wish knighten was a little healthier coming into this game. groin injuries can be very tricky. but i like the red wolves to be right in this game to the end.
middle tenn st (+4) 1 unit.
middle tenn st (ML) 1 unit to win 1.5. ok, i was a little stunned when i realized grammer lost his starting job to a freshman, but stockstill has been great. and he already has a start at alabama under his belt. i think he'll find this illinois defense a little more to his liking. no reason the blue raiders can't win this game in a shootout.
mtst/ill over (62) 2 units. is this just too easy? i don't see anyone getting any stops in this game.
utah (+10.5) 3 units
utah (ML) 1 unit to win 3.2. think about the teams oregon has struggled with over the last few years... stanford a couple times, michigan state, ohio state... tough, physical teams. that's utah. and the utes have revenge on their minds. as everyone who bet them against oregon last year remembers, they had just taken a 14-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter when it was noticed that, oops, kaelin clay actually decided to be cool and drop the ball before he crossed the goal line. needless to say, that crushed the utes and oregon reeled off the next 24 points. the utes still fought back and got to within 3 early in the 4th before the ducks scored the last 3 tds of the game. but that was a very winnable game for utah. i will make a side wager that all utes hang on to the ball while crossing the goal line today. i haven't been terribly impressed with oregon so far this year, as they lost to the only decent team they've played. this is a real statement game for the utes. 2 weeks before they get lit up at cal.
arizona st (ML) 2 units to win 3.8. sure, az st had the big loss to open the season and they haven't been super impressive in their wins over cal poly and new mexico, but what has usc done to be laying points in this game? they beat 2 scrub teams and lost to a mediocre stanford team. i'll go ahead and call it... az st beats usc on a hail mary for the 2nd straight year.
ucla (-2) 1 unit. the sky is falling! the sky is falling! rosen has looked like a freshman his last 2 games! ucla has now lost 3 starters! including myles jack! perfect time to "circle the wagons" and beat up on dick-rod's team.
