Nice run the past week or so, IE. Really nice. I guess we have been thinking alike ........as things have turned around here , also......................like right after I decided to play only overs on my totals plays. (For as long as it takes for the odds to catch up, anyway) Alot of nice plays at the key 9 during this stretch. As you know, it's been working great. The LHP angles had a good month, also, huh? More GL ........THE HITMAN

Can't argue with your pick, but i am going to give Burba this one start to evaluate, Yost has said below he is going to get 3 starts.

Both bullpens are going to be taxed heavily today and tomorrow it looks like, twins probably off usage don't have santana...

Like you say brewers hitting well and had good looks at Rogers earlier in the week....5 runs a piece is definitley not out of the question, depending on Burba's stamina.

Good Luck if you play it Bohawk.

=======

Veteran right-hander Dave Burba, who will be 37 on July 7, was summoned from Class AAA Indianapolis to start tonight against the Minnesota Twins. To make room for Burba, a veteran of 12 major-league seasons, the Brewers sent right-hander Ruben Quevedo to Indianapolis. Quevedo was 1-4 with a 6.53 earned run average in eight starts,

On Sunday, the Brewers will give rookie left-hander Matt Ford his first major-league start. Ford, 22, a Rule 5 draft pick, is 0-0 with a 2.15 ERA in 21 relief appearances and is filling the spot vacated when left-hander Glendon Rusch was sent to Indianapolis in hopes of getting back on track.

Manager Ned Yost said the plan was to give Burba and Ford three starts apiece leading into the all-star break, then re-evaluate their status.

"We're going to find a way to get better in the Nos. 4-5 spots," Yost said.

"We've presented an opportunity and we hope somebody takes it like some of the other guys have, like Scott Podsednik and Wes Helms. All we can do is give them a chance to be successful."

The numbers show why the Brewers are desperate to get some production from the final two spots in the rotation. The Brewers are 27-23 when Ben Sheets, Wayne Franklin and Matt Kinney start games.

When Rusch, Quevedo and Todd Ritchie (now out for the season) started games, the Brewers were 6-22. That left them 13 games below .500 (32-45) entering the weekend.

Burba was signed by the Brewers to a minor-league deal on May 4 after he was released by Cleveland's Class A Buffalo club. In 10 appearances (nine starts) with Indianapolis, he was 5-4 with a 5.33 ERA.

Burba has pitched in the big leagues for Seattle, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Texas. His career record is 110-85 with a 4.52 ERA.

"He's a veteran who knows how to pitch," Yost said. "He brings experience and a lot of savvy. He pitched fine in his last two or three starts (at Indianapolis)."

Ford prepared for his first big-league start by going four innings vs. St. Louis and 31/3 vs. the Cubs in his last two relief outings. He spent 18 minutes in the bullpen on Thursday.

"If we can get him through five innings, it would be great," Yost said. "I look at what Matt has done his last two times out, battling quality teams that shelled our starting pitchers and shutting them down for three or four innings.

"He has proven to me all along that he has the makeup and presence to pitch at the major-league level."

Ford, who pitched primarily as a starter during his minor-league career with Toronto, did not try to hide his delight at getting his first starting assignment with the Brewers.

"I like being a starter," he said. "I saw it coming but it was still good to hear it. This is an opportunity I've been waiting for all my life.

"I've proven a little bit up here but I need to prove more. I just want to give us some big innings and get deep into games."
