PITTSBURGH ? All Marc Savard wanted to do was go home and sleep.

?Right now, I just need rest,? said the injured Bruins [team stats] star as he sat in Pittsburgh International Airport awaiting a mid-day flight to Boston. ?I?m exhausted.?

Savard was knocked unconscious by a blindside hit to the head from Penguins forward Matt Cooke Sunday, suffering a concussion and damaged jaw during the Bruins? 2-1 loss. He was walking and talking very slowly in the airport, although the fact he was able to traverse the several hundred yards to the Boston gate under his own power had to be a good sign. With many concussed athletes, it?s sometimes difficult to walk across a room.

?I think that?s a good sign,? said Savard of his being able to walk without dizziness or balance problems. He was examined by physicians in Pittsburgh yesterday before he was cleared to fly.

He spent the night here in part because of concerns over possible bleeding in his brain.

?Yeah, I think that?s why I stayed over, because it wasn?t a good idea to get on a plane,? said Savard.

He has no idea what the immediate future holds, or when he could possible play again.

?I?m just really tired right now,? he said. ?(I have) headaches, my head?s been pounding all morning. I just want to get back to Boston and get in my bed. I?ll see our own doctors today, then I?ll get some rest and we?ll take it from there.?

Savard has no memory of the play on which he was hurt, or the several minutes that followed until he was wheeled off the ice on a stretcher.

?I don?t even remember taking the shot,? he said. ?I remember generally most of the game, but up around that point I totally don?t remember any of it.

Savard was prone on the ice for a number of minutes as Bruins trainers and EMTs worked on him.

?(Bruins trainer) Donnie (DelNegro) said I was out for a good 15-20 seconds,? Savard said. ?I remember seeing bright lights right after, and that was about it. I kind of remember waving (to the crowd) as I went off. I knew where I was then, I guess, but I don?t remember much of it at all.?

Doctors feared at first that Savard had also incurred a broken jaw, but X-Rays on a portable unit at the rink showed no fractures.

?My jaw was crooked a bit,? he said. ?This morning it feels a little better. It feels more in place. It was just shifted a little bit from the impact.?

Savard didn?t have much to say about the hit. Cooke came from behind him and smashed him on the right side of the head with his arm ? about midway between his shoulder and elbow. No penalty was called, although the Bruins are adamant Cooke, who has been suspended before for dirty hits, should face a lengthy ban.

Great article .The sad thing is no penalty is called!!
Then on Saturday for a hit that seems legal Ryder is given a 5minute major with a game misconduct on Saturday vs NYI.

I don't know in the NFL a helmet hit is called almost automatically.Don't know what the hockey officials are thinking or smoking for that matter.
