i knew kicky would have to say something about this topic

i found this info(at the bottom) somewere, some people in here will know were i found it. Not sure if i can post it in here but
i just couldn't let kickserve have the last word on this.

" Why don't we find out what the Sens organization has done not just this year for charities in Ottawa and the Valley?

Rogers house is for families and paliative care for cancer patients. It has already raised over a MILLION DOLLARS for needy families. They are looking at raising 3 million or more for the house. Did the Sens ask the Leafs to match their donations, NO!

Wade Redden has had a suite for CHEO kids who are ill since his rookie year. Every game kids from CHEO use the suite with their parents.
Alfie is doing the same thing now as well for the next 5 years. Havlat has donated 25,000 the last 3 years to the Ronald McDonald House. Do the Sens ask the Leafs to match what the Sens players are doing, NO!

The Sens in the last 5 years alone have donated and raised a combined 8 million for Candlelighters, Sheppard?s of Good Hope and many more that I don?t have a list of names of. So the Sens organization has more than done work with needy families or the poor who don?t have food.

If the Sens had to match a charity offer every time someone challenged them then why should the organization that is challenging them not match all their other charity donations?

The last thing anyone can accuse the Sens organization of is not supporting local charities or the needy. The Sens give a certain amount of tickets to the Boys and Girls Club for every game, FREE! Do the Leafs do that? I don?t know but I doubt it but won?t say that the Leafs org. does not do their share of charity work.

So to say thumbs down to the Sens organization is WAY OFF! I could go on and on about the several endless times the Sens do work in the community. I know there are 4 different media people who visit this site that can give more substance to what I am saying and give further proof.

Sure it would have been nice for the Sens to do match the offer but a team has to draw the line. Funny how you did not post the numerous times the Sens organization has raised millions of dollars or donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to different groups.

nobody??..a company or organization can be expected to do something anytime someone asks them. What you have to do is look at what a company or organization does on an all around and consistent basis.

Sorry pal, thumbs down to you for saying you lost all respect for the Sens organization.

The only thing the Sens are guilty of is that they continuously raise the bar for community involvement and make many other organizaions look silly in their charity endeavours even though every organization in sports do great things for their cities. "

TM, here is my response from that site.

Oh I agree XXX, as I knew about the ROGERS HOUSE, but to back down from matching a donation that the leafs made....bad PR move if you ask me. Its not like it was much money, only 5K. You should hear the Toronto radio stations, not to mention a few hockey analysts that were interviewed (adam graves, john davidson, and an espn writer) who said this looks bad for the Sens org. Think about it, for 5K, this has made them look bad in many eyes. I may have exaggeratted when i said "I lost all respect", but you get the idea. I want the Sens 1st round. The city mayor has stated that if the Leafs defeat Ottawa in the playoffs ( if they meet), Toronto (city) will donate 10K to their food bank. The city of Ottawa should frown upon their beloved Sens, I know a few sens fans can't believe that their team responded that way. I applaud them in saying so.check it out

Maybe I'm over reacting here as the owner is cash-strapped???but their fans don't seem to think so

I'm not saying this just bcuz I am a leafs fan, hell I don't care if it was the Florida panthers, anytime a city calls out a hockey team, and the team follows suit, and then the leafs ask ottawa to match that and they refuse.....:(

BAD PR MOVE

after giving this some extra thought, I understand that Ottawa is doing their share but its the exectutives that should be frowned upon, not the players...

I agree, bad PR move. But, the city mayor making a statement like "IF" the leafs BEAT Ottawa in the playoffs they will donate 10K sounds a little odd to me. If you throw something like that out there, then obviously they have the money to donate, so why make a wager out of it (while in public office). Donate the money anyway.

Just a thought and reaction to the way that statement makes me feel.
