President Obama is currently claiming that he has already cut $1.4 trillion in government spending and that he has proposed an additional $2.5 trillion in spending cuts. Really? This is government double-speak at its worst. What he actually means is that he has proposed a spending increase that is $2.5 trillion less than the spending increase he originally proposed, and, all of that is over the next 10 years. It?s still a huge spending increase, yet he calls it a spending cut? The president explains this subterfuge by calling it ?accepted economic planning?. I call it a boldfaced lie.

Another thing. The president has repeatedly claimed that the $1.2 trillion (over 10 years) sequestration cuts will have dire consequences, including 750,000 lost jobs, layoffs of teachers, firemen, and cops, loss of military readiness, and a damaged economy. Ok, if that?s true, then it must also be true that the $1.4 trillion he claims to have already cut must have resulted in even more lost jobs and layoffs, and even more damage to the military and the economy. And, by the same logic, the $2.5 trillion he has proposed will inevitably devastate the economy even more. Yet, somehow, by his logic, even though the sequestration cuts will be devastating, his existing ?cuts? improved everything and his proposed cuts will result in further improvements. Go figure. (I also thought that fire and police were paid for by LOCAL governments, not federal.)

Perhaps I?ve been looking at our family budget incorrectly. I plan on buying a new car next year, and I originally had my eye on a $60,000 SUV. I?ve now lowered my expectations to a $40,000 car, so, by President Obama?s logic, I have cut my spending by $20,000. Funny thing, I can?t seem to locate the actual $20,000 cash, because it?s money I never had in the first place!

But, don?t waste all of your ire on the White House. All of this economic bolderdash has been coming at us from both sides of the political aisle. Republicans and democrats are both complicit in camouflaging their lack of courage in 10 year ?accepted economic planning?. For example, both sides are wailing about the impact of sequestration. For crying out loud, it?s $82 billion this year - about 2.5% of our federal budget. It take an incredible amount of gall for Washington to claim that they can?t cut the federal budget by 2.5% without suffering disastrous consequences. Ok, I know some families and individuals will suffer, but budget cuts are always painful, and, if some budgetary pain right now will restore our national economy in the future ? I think that is a goal we can all agree on.

Here?s a thought. How about someone in Congress proposing real cuts in spending, this year and across the board, and accompany the proposal with genuine tax reform?

Seriously, America.....are these jokers the best we can do?

Cuts started today.... planes are falling from the sky, roads are blowing up, Russia invaded Alaska, the prisons have all been emptied and hardened criminals are running amok in the streets and ALL of our food is now tainted as the USDA is no longer inspecting ANYTHING!

:scared

OMG - THE USA as we have known it is DONE!!!

All over $85 billion in cuts - (incidentally, $85B is the same amount that the FED prints each month)

There is a political reporter by the name of Jamie Dupree on the radio and I listen to his reports.

He made a good point today.

The pentagon and the military in the USA is so big and has so much money flowing that they have not done a full audit in years.

They have said they will do a full audit in 2017 or
3 years from now.

How do we allow this in America to not be accountable for taxpayers money.

I got news for ya boys. They spend what they want and dont give two shits about a budget.

They are so big it is impossible to hold them accountable.

and you neo cons want to blame Obama

wow, just wow

Perhaps you did not read my 4th paragraph.

The US did not get to a $17 Trillion hole in one day...nor one administration.

And, because of Medicaid, Medicare and SSA, the US is currently facing a $211 trillion deficit for unfunded future liabilities.

Here ----have some fun.

http://www.usdebtclock.org/

There is a little button in the top right called
Debt Clock Time Machine
Try and quess as to what the debt will be in 2017 before you hit it and see how close you get!!!

Winner gets $1 Gazillion US dollars - which, in 2017, might buy you a Starbucks Venti Carmel Macchiato!

WOOT!

And, as you can see from the chart below, the amount of money saved by sequestration, was spent in, ummm, one day.....(or at least $80B of it)

They are what you get when voters think gay marriage and racial profiling are important issues but foolish unfunded wars and deficit spending are not.

When Raymond's and skulnuts' votes count the same as Bob Gates' and Warren Buffet's , something's wrong.

Badly wrong

The inmates are running the asylum without mentally competent supervision. These jerkoffs couldn't pass the citizenship test with a gun to their head. But they get to vote for whatever politician wanks their crank.

Makes you wonder whether democracy and universal suffrage are good ideas.

Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Friday that Republicans were right to feel hurt after President Barack Obama gave speeches on the looming sequester.

"Well, no one can think that's been a success for the president. He didn't think the sequester would happen. It is happening," Romney said in an interview excerpt on Fox News. "But to date, what we've seen is the president out campaigning to the American people, doing rallies around the country, flying around the country, and berating Republicans. And blaming and pointing. Now what does that do? That causes the Republicans to retrench and then put up a wall and fight back. It's a very natural human emotion."

I disagree. the debt is here but this is not the way it will be forever.

Wheels are in place to replace the USD as the world's reserve currency. Be it SDR's issued by the IMF or a Russian-Sino currency backed by gold, the USD will not always be the worlds sole reserve currency.
When that mantle is stripped from the USD, the US and the standard of living here that America has become used to will be a thing of the past.

The issue is:

WHEN?

For that, I have no answer.

I can answer that for you.

Never........

Its a worthless topic to worry about. The US will find ways to avoid the worst. America always has and America always will.

Its politics and the game of goverment.

It really dont matter who is in power. Its all the same.

See ya in 2050 when the USA goes down the tubes for good .......:0074

and ask yourself this.......Where will I be in 2050 ?

yeh that brings this all in perspective

and in that year they debt will still be a big topic of discussion and America will just move on like always

WASHINGTON -- The Transportation Security Administration announced Friday it would adopt a hiring freeze and reduce overtime spending in response to federal spending cuts -- a move it said could double wait times at checkpoints at the busiest airports.

Travelers won't notice longer waits immediately, the agency said. But because of turnover, it said, it expects slots for 1,000 security officers to be vacant by Memorial Day and 2,600 vacancies by the end of September.

"With TSA staffing levels decreasing over time, we expect that during busy travel periods wait times exceeding 30 to 40 minutes could double at nearly all of the largest airports," the agency said in a statement.

"In addition," it said, "passengers who schedule their travel outside of peak flight schedules and plan to arrive close to their scheduled flight time may see their wait times now reach 30 minutes or more."

The announcement is one of the few concrete examples of how $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts that would affect travelers would be implemented. The cuts were to take effect today, though the brunt of them won't begin being seen in many instances until next month.

.....................................................................

holy shit

America may have to wait a extra 30 minutes to get thru airport lines.

The world is truly changing for the worst because of this debt reduction.

wtf ........how stupid is that

drive a fucking car then and enjoy the scenery

Typical American hubris - because we have always lived with the USD being the reserve currency, we think it will be that way forever.

I imagine all the countries before us who USED to carry the mantle thought the same as well.

Did you look at the debt clock link that I posted and do the time travel feature?

Think about how the debt will skyrocket if interest rates go up a mere 1%.

Or, how much debt will be added when Medicaid runs out of $$$$ and now, those costs are added to the bill?

Unless plans are in the works to sell off Alaska to Canada or Russia, or we plan on invading Africa and instead of a peace-keeping mission, we take over the place and control all the natural resources, the debt bomb is still ticking and I think we will see a monumental change by 2025, if we last that long.

Russia, China, Iran, N.Korea, most of the Middle East actually, would LOVE to see the USD hegemony end.

No, Duff.

I think it is wrong to borrow $17 Trillion and have no plan in place to pay it back. And interest rates will not stay at 1% forever.

I think it is wrong to borrow money to create a fictional standard of living, to borrow money to pay for stuff that is not necessary nor should we be borrowing money so we can send money out as foreign aid.

You can post your links to debt to GDP from the 40's-50's - blah-blah-blah. It's not 1948 and we do not have an expanding manufacturing sector nor are we a net creditor.

The US is broke. It is only a matter of time before the bond vigilantes who have been circling Greece and Spain and Italy, fly over here.
