Unreal. Unfortunately, I have to report bad news for this homefront. Samantha lost her job today.....due to "cutbacks." She, apparantly, was in the "lucky" 10% that got the hook. She went into work this morning, got called into a room with her boss, and that's that. She had been with this company for just over 3 years. The severence offered to her is one months pay + $1500 (which they deem is the cost of finding a new job). My first reaction is that this is kinda low? Is my thinking wrong and should I just be happy that they offered her anything?! Thoughts?

It seems like this is happening to everyone lately. It's real bad up here. My buddy owns a security company and has had people with MBA's apply for concierge/guard positions that pay about $12/hour. My best advice would be to have her work on her resume and hit the job boards hard (craigslist, monster, careerbuilder, indeed, etc.). Good luck Bart! Hopefully we can talk again soon, I enjoyed our conversation yesterday on FB chat.

Sorry to hear that. Seems like everyone I talk to knows someone that lost their job. I went through it a few years back and I know how it feels. Just hang in and things will get better.

this guy has the right attitude.

file for unemployment comp immediately. That will help offset the loss after the first month.

I don't think that they owe her anything so she should be happy for getting what she got.

I was less than 3 years, and got roughly the same, but not the $1500 extra.

I feel bad, as it just happened to me as well!

I hope she finds something soon, as since I know it truly does SUCK, trhe prevailing theme is something positive will/should happen from this.

GL to her and your family!

GL to you and Samantha.

Job boards are flooded right now. I would concentrate on more aggressive/personal tactics while looking at this time.

Samantha's personality will be a bonus for her that wouldn't come through on a job board.
