i didn't think so in the beginning stages of kerry's campaign, but i think he is looking to make a big splash for a running mate. and what bigger splash than hilliary.

if kerry picks hilliary, wonder if bush dumps chaney for rudy or mccain.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX WED JUNE 30, 2004 11:18:25 ET XXXXX

VICE PRESIDENT HILLARY; SPECULATION INTENSIFIES IN WASHINGTON

Official Washington and the entire press corps will be rocked when Hillary Rodham Clinton is picked as Kerry's VP and a massive love fest will begin!

So predicts a top D.C. insider, who spoke to the DRUDGE REPORT on condition he not be named.

"All the signs point in her direction," said the insider, one of the most influential and well-placed in the nation's capital. "It is the solution to every Kerry problem."

MORE

"There are three issues that this campaign will be decided on -- national security, health care, and the economy, not necessarily in that order."

"Kerry believes that no one is better on national security than he is, he served in Vietnam after all, so he has that covered and the suggestion that he needs to strengthen the ticket with someone who has national security credentials is dismissed as foolish."

The insider continues: "The Democrats feel like health care is the domestic issue. But how to make it the dominant topic of conversation -- break through war and terrorism? Hillary Clinton. She catapults it out front with her commission. She tried to provide health care before and the Republicans in congress attacked her and her husband and used a bunch of scandals dirty tricks to stop it, we know they are scandals and dirty tricks because the former president book says so. So now you have the number two person on the ticket who is a 'health care expert' and what will Republicans do? Attack on health care pointing to her commission saying that it was government medicine. Her response -- it wasn't, and the Republicans are a bunch of dirty tricksters, "Liars and Crooks," as Kerry calls them, and its been too long and Democrats wont let the Republicans do it to them again. By the way, it puts prescription drugs on the back burner, the Republicans health care ace. You will have a fully engaged national debate on health care from now until the election."

MORE

"The Democrats economic plan is to say Bush sucks, it's never enough, we must get back to the Clinton Era when 22 million jobs were created. You can't do much better at making that point then-- Kerry/Clinton 2004.

"But what about impeachment and Monica -- wont that overshadow her being picked? It' now been covered in the book. Not only that, but she is a women scorned who has dealt with what so many American women deal with and stuck it out to keep her family together. And Whitewater? It's in the book. Vince Foster? Book. Billing records, White House travel Office? Book, book. All have been covered. All Republican slime tactics.

"Why would Kerry make such a public spectacle about trying to get John Mccain, wont whoever you pick be considered a second choice. Not if it is Hillary!

"There are differences of opinion about how this election will be won but one school says its all about the base. Republicans are bumping up against the ceiling with support from their base and Democrats are sitting on the floor. This would change that.

"Official Washington and national media will fall in love with the idea immediately letting Kerry/Clinton dominate the news through July and up to the Republican convention. She will say she is doing it for the good of the country. I am convinced this is going to happen."

MORE

"But what Hillary about having to wait to run for president? If Bush wins then she is the nominee for 2008 because it will be all Kerry's fault. If she wins she is the first woman VP of the United States, which would help her become the first woman president of the U.S. It would be historic in its own right and change the nature of politics in this country, and mark her place in the history books for ever-- a different history than her husbands."

I don't care for her at all, but it would almost be worth it just to see the reaction.

Let's face it, it's pretty much universally agreed on that Bill Clinton was a great president, but Hillary is an unknown. I doubt she's ready for a high office like that.

Just dont think this will happen. She has denied it for a long time.

She really is a witch. Evidenced by how someone posted she treated the Secret Service
detail that protects her. No one in the SS wanted that detail. Its a sad state of affairs.

Edwards is the safe way to go and Kerry seems like a safe kind of a man.

Kosar:

Obviously, all thinking people agree that Billy Jeff. was one of the greatest presidents these here United States of America has ever seen however, I disagree with your take on the former first lady with the linebacker ankles. I think she would make a very good vice president and set her up for a run for the presidency in 12 after Kerry completes his second term. With Hill next door to the oval office we wouldnt have to bring interns in.

We need to balance the scales and have some carpet munchin in the oval office. Bring back Janet Reno.

she's simply not electable. Everyone is already 'polarized' and she's completely buried with certain demographical groups. Impossible.

I beg to differ Auspice, those groups that her will not vote for Kerry anyway. I think she would get some from the middle on health care issue, womans rights and the fact that she kinda was the woman scorned.

We'll just have to disagree. She'd certainly add a lot of passion to the vote, that's for sure. It might be the first election where the entire population votes two or three different times.

Bush has been such a disgrace as President that the only way he could win would be by Kerry and the Dems doing something stupid. Well, not really stupid but Kerry's best chance of winning is to just keep his mouth shut because everytime he says something he loses votes. I agree with Brother Ed that it would almost be worth it for him to pick her. The reactions would be great.

Now I never bought into these Oliver Stone conspiracy theories...but...

The Clintons both vocally suppported Wesley Clark in the beginning of this election (the fmr. army general who Bill relieved of power while he was still in command). Why support a candidate whom they knew had no chance? At the time, he was behind both Kerry and Dean.

Strategists point out the fact that Clinton's book came out before the election, perhaps to steal thunder from the Kerry campaign.

Deep down, I think they think the Clintons feel that GW is too strong an opponent. She does not want to run against and incumbent, and are there any front runners for the GOP in 2008? Mitt Romney? Jeb Bush?

Hillary 2008. Watch out now.

if hill isn`t the v.p. nominee......i`d say there`s a good chance it will be john edwards.....and if kerry wins, and i think he will, and maybe gets a second term,it`s almost an automatic that edwards will follow kerry as the democratic nominee....

he`s young....he can wait....

but,if this scenario plays out,and it`s not at all far fetched, hillary will be frozen out.....

i can`t see her sitting by idly as the chance at making political history passes her by ....

should be very interesting...

Stevie:

I just heard this that based on what he has done so far, a vote for Bush is no longer a choice but, rather reflects a character flaw in the voter.

i don't understand what the love affair with john edwards is all about.

i once heard that the reason that edwards was entering the presidential primary was because he wasn't going to win another term as senator of n. carolina.

other than him being an attractive looking candidate, he brings nothing to the table.

he has very little experience in many fields, plus he iwon't get kerry any more of the southern votes than kerry would get if he didn't pick edwards.

is it a good idea for 2 eastern senators running on the same ticket ?

i don't think so.

there is no appeal to the rest of the country with a kerry/edwards ticket.

imo, in order for kerry to have any chance of beating bush, he needs a running mate from the mid-west or the south-west.

i forgot about hilliary's speech that dr. freeze is referring to in his post.

picking hilliary may give kerry a boost in the beginning, but he will not win with hilliary as his running mate.

kosar,

do you really think clinton was a great president.?

i think your parisanship is taking over your thinking, i'm sorry to say.

first, it's much too early to fairly gage clinton as a president.

we have to give it a couple of more years pass & let the historians gather all the necessary info before a fair appraisal of clinton's presidency can be evaluated.

i just heard jack kemp state that he thinks sam nunn would be the perfect candidate as kerry's running mate.

i think kemp just nailed the prefect vp running mate for kerry.

nunn is a "conservative-moderate" with great foreign policy credentials.

eventhough i'm voting for buch,i could defintely live with a kerry/nunn ticket.

i don`t know,ar

i don`t know,ar

edwards has introduced kerry to some of his most prolific campaign donors thus far.......half his campaign staff now work in kerry`s office......

he has been interviewed twice by james johnson, who heads the v.p. search committee...

he is seen as a guy that injects youth and energy into the campaign.....

he would help,at least some,in the south....

teddy kennedy really likes the guy....

and most importantly,he really brings no nasty baggage....many believe that the v.p. is more about not harming the presidential candidate that helping him....

hillary,as someone previously stated,is a polarizing personality....and i don`t say that as a partisan....it`s a fact....she may be enough to galvanize republican support....

edwards is seen as young,handsome,energetic......i`ve heard him described as kennedy-
esque(as in john and robert....not teddy....edwards isn`t a drinker,as far as i can tell).....

he is very popular with party activists....edwards is often the second choice of speakers after kerry himself....

you`d have this fresh young candidate vs dick cheney, who has been painted as a corporate monster.....

and edwards is,in a muted sort of way, literally campaigning for the job....he wants it....badly,from all accounts...

we`ll see...

------thats the opitome of matter of opinion
"Obviously, all thinking people agree that Billy Jeff. was one of the greatest presidents these here United States"
For this to be correct one would have to assume on people on welfare-making less than $20,000 a year are "the thinking people" People that pull their weight.own businesses.milyary-farmers ect that support these people are the dumbasses. Hmm may be some truth there Edward. :)

and about character--who would rave on one convicted of pergury-impeached-disbarred ect and even consider usuing the word character on anyone??

Saw Saddam today and his finger waving brought back memories of the sheep that bit on same BS by another here--but the real sheep were those continiung support to one who duped them so easily.
Was also reminded when Hussein was ranting on about his innocence and then calling Bush the criminal--and my father who I was visiting and is 80 and ww2 vet remarked What idiots does he expect to fall for that. I thought----'if you only knew------

Nah, I don't really think he was a great president. Just a hell of a lot better than others. Ya know?

As far as my 'partisanship' goes, wake me up when you post one article, or make one post that doesn't pander to the conservative way of thinking.
