"If you have a brain tumor, it's really important, um, that you find out you have a brain tumor..."

That's my kind of doctor...kind of like wanting to have one of the four out of five dentists that recommend sugarless gum to their patients that chew gum...

:00x13 (closest smiley I could find to having something "teethy" to signify...)

Chad do you know who blocked Hillary from succeeding in getting healthcare for everyone in our nation? Who were the crumbs that would block a measure like this for all the people in our country?

You know, it is possible to have both. Why would some level of guaranteed basic care for all infringe on people who can afford something more expensive?

I'd love to hear from our Canadian members about the following potential concersn regarding healthcare:

Researchers examining the quality of the Canadian healthcare system cite several problems with the system:

Major concerns included limited access to diagnostic equipment (such as MRIs and CT Scanners) and lengthy wait times for surgeries and serious physician shortages, which are particularly prevalent for general practitioners (GP) / family doctors.

In some parts of the country waiting times to acquire a GP have been as long as several years. There have been some wait-time improvements through 2005 and 2006. Even so, as of 2004, five million Canadians were without a family doctor.

This link is old, but here it is anyay:

No bro the Republicans blocked it at every turn. The same Republicans inwhich every single one voted against Clintons budget. The one that created 21 million jobs. I know creating jobs isnt a big deal to a guy that has a steady job and is self centered, but to others who like the thought of everyone working (which also brings down crime) it is.

then how about you stop complaining and move to france or canada

How about you and everybody condition to believe this is bad move, move so the rest of us can live peacefully and with healthcare and nobody will ever have to have this huge threat lingering over their heads. You know, the american family that has a whole lifetime of wages, get wiped out with a bad illness. The guy that is around 55 who gets hurt at work and now can't work and also loses his healthcare for him and his family.

Yes, please sign me up for this. That way, I can go to a GP for free who tells me i have coronary artery disease and need an angioplasty done. My visit was great, cause it was free!

Then, I can sit on a waiting list for 2 years to get the angioplasty done. In the meantime, i can have a heart attack and die while waiting.

It's great for canadians..they get free diagnosis and then travel across the border to the US and pay out of pocket for specialists, rather than sit there and rot while waiting in canada.

Sounds like a great system to me. Where do I sign?

Why does everyone think that it is "Free" healthcare in France and Canada? I guess it is "free" if you are not working, or make a minimal income.

But tax rates are much higher in those countries. It is just another way to cost shift from people who pay little or no taxes to those who pay most of the taxes.

I remember seeing some stat a while ago that the top 1% of income earners in the US pay 40% of the taxes??? While I'm not one of them, I'll be the first to admit how unfair that is. That top 1% doesn't use 40% of the country's services, that is for sure. They don't get their money's worth.

While healthcare is an important topic, it is just as important that people have the right to buy the type of plan that is right for them. We are not a one size fits all country. Some people choose to drive Chevy's, and some BMW's.

The key things, in my mind, are to have a basic level of care for people - very basic, mind you, at a price that folks can pay. Even that may be difficult.

But health care is costly - as is many professional services - like lawyers. People need to take more responsibility for their own health - such as being overweight (or obese) and being a smoker.

People that expect to pay $20 to go to the doctor and have the insurer pay everything else - well, that is like asking Chevy to pay for your oil changes. Insurance is not designed to pay for regular maintenance - it is supposed to spread the cost of unplanned, high cost illnesses that weren't self inflicted.

We currently have the best healthcare system in the world IMHO. We have consumer choice as to which type of plan they want to buy, with premium choices based on abiliity to pay. Those of you who foolishly think the Canadian system is better - especially because it is "Free" :mj07:

Like another poster said, if you desire that type of system, and it is an important issue for you, then by all means move to Canada. It is kinda stupid to complain about the American system when you have the ability to change your own personal circumstance.

Oh by the way, when you move to Canada, enjoy paying 50% or more of your income for taxes, which helps support the "Free" healthcare you so desparately seek.....

No cous try 37th in the world. Your post is so full of half truth the rest isn't even worthy of a response. We are the only western Industrialize nation in the world who doesn't have affordable universal health care for their citizens. (is everyone else wrong)You don't have to raise taxes over here, what you do is not start illegal wars and this will save a trillion, Stop giving welfare to these farmers and that is another load of money. Stop running up huge debts which 1/3 of our taxes go to the interest on those Republican debts. Wallah there is enough money right there to give everyone health care and a ton of other chit. Iraq has free health care and i pay for it.

Well Sponge, I guess the only appropriate response to "Iraq has free health care and I pay for it" is:

Please, please move to Iraq. You are getting ripped off - you are paying for something you can't even use (according to your argument). You better get over their fast, so you can get "your fair share".

Tip - take an air conditioner - I heard it's kinda hot over there this time of year...

Definitely some bad scenarios there. Life is not always a bed of roses. I just can't understand why it would be someone else's responsibility/obligation to pick up the pieces it this were to happen to me.

Our government has become the guarantor of last resort which has grown a culture of no personal responsibility and people walking around with their hand out sucking on the big government titty.
