Software question Windows 8

Does anyone know if a document created in Word 2003 and on a memory stick, can be read by Windows 8 with newest Word on it? Thx.

Thx I.E. but I need to edit the document, not just read. Not sure if 8 software will allow.

It should work fine. Just make sure when you finish editing the file you save it in it's original format, and not a new 2013 format. Otherwise it will then become a 2013 file going forward (unless you want that?).
