I cover Fairfield U. men's (and women's) for a local paper here. I am one of probably 3 or 4 beat writers who follow the team (home games only).
I rarely post on the message board, but I think Fairfield gets the win tonight.
Stags' season has been absolutely mind-boggling. It has taken more unexpected turns than a rollercoaster.
The team doesn't handle prosperity at all, but seems to thrive when everybody is down on them. Without Gai and Todd, others have picked it up (like Sogadzi and Van Schaick).
One of my favorite betting strategies is wagering on a team that is without a good player or two. The line mves in your favor, and the reserve players give a great effort in the starting role. They want to impress the coach.
Canisius is awful at home this year (1-7 I think). I expect a tight game at halftime, and the Jesuits to slowly pull away in the 2nd half.
Fairfield is road-tested this year with a tough non-conference schedule. Stags won by 5 at Koessler Center last year and seem to have the "us against ther world" attitiude with media members and opposing teams right now. It seems to be working.
Grifs now without guard Doss (only one Dewitt on the court tonight, Stags' Maxwell-playing well lately). Doss went down vs. Manhattan on Sunday with ACL, and the Jaspers ripped this team apart, thereafter.
I'm the farthest thing from a homer. Heck, Tim O'Toole drives me crazy sometimes with his temper towards the officials (often getting technicals at crucial times).
I've wagered on Fairfield several times before and also against Fairfield several times before. I just think this is a game tonight that Stags win (-1) maybe 70-75 times out of 100.
I like Fairfield's chances.....strong play.
