Final Round Greater Milwaukee Open

lines for matchups avail. from Carib

#13 Skip Kendall vs Steve Stricker (Greater Milwaukee Open 4th Round Matchup) 9:52 am
Skip Kendall +105
Steve Stricker -125

Good matchup here in Stricker v. Kendall. Kendall who shot a 67 in 2001 has not closed well on tour this year averaging 71.67 strokes for the final round thru this event.

Of note in Kendall's L10 final rounds he has broken 70 merely three times. Skip shot 68/2000, 65/1999, 65/1998, and 71 here in the final round in 1997.

Steve Stricker best known for challenging Vijay Singh at Sahalee for the PGA Championship, has a fine record in this event shooting 69 on Sunday here in 2001 as well as a 68/2000, 67/1999, 68/1998, 66/1997, 67/1996 etc..

Coming into this week he is averaging 69.89 in the final round and has broken 70 4 of the last 5 tourneys (not including the US Open where he shot a superb 71 on the brutal Bethpage layout) Stricker is a cumulative -12 strokes his L5 tourneys going from Saturdays play to Sundays final round, or -1.4 strokes per round. I'll be looking for that trend to continue taking Steve Stricker -125 2 units

#11 Greg Chalmers vs Carlos Franco (Greater Milwaukee Open 4th Round Matchup) 9:43 am
Greg Chalmers -120
Carlos Franco +100

Looking at Chalmers play to this point he has shot 67/66/65 thru Sat. avg. 1.54 PPG with only 25.3 putts for an average. Greg is coming off of back to back rounds of 23 putts each, Can he expect to do it again? Chalmers who is currently -15 maintains a 71.22 final round scoring avg..

Chalmers is +9 strokes cumulative going from Sat. to Sun. in his last 5 tourneys or +0.8 strokes per round and has not broken 70 in the final round since March of this year.

Carlos Franco the 1999 Champion at this event shot 69 in last years final round . Starting at -9 Franco has the benifit of an earlier start time as well.

Carlos this year has not been the epitomy of consistency but of note the two times this year where he shot par or better for the three previous rounds he closed with scores of 70 and 69.

Combining Chalmers potential for a letdown and Franco's capability when playing well finds us with a high percentage play on Carlos Franco +100 2 units

Final Round Leader Matchup

#1 Jeff Sluman vs Kirk Triplett (Greater Milwaukee Open 4th Round Matchup) 10:55 am
Jeff Sluman -115
Kirk Triplett -105

Looking at this matchup one thing that stands out right away is the fact that Sluman at -20 is starting some 4 shots clear of Tripplet who stands at -16. For starters Sluman at -20 doesn't have to shoot a 4 or 5 under round to maintain his lead while Tripplet should expect to shoot in the 60's to gain ground.

Sluman the 22 year Tour vet shot 72 here on Sunday in 2001, and 70/1999. Slu averages 73.13 strokes in the final round this year good for 169th on tour. Jeff has not broken 70 in the final round in 10 tournaments. As if that weren't enough thru Saturday Sluman is averaging 1.59 PPG a far cry from his 1.79 season avg. seemingly prime for a dropoff.

Tripplet with a final round scoring average of 72.63 strokes has played nicely this week tallying up only two bogeys all week, and is in the top 15 this week for both Driving accuracy and GIR.

In his last two starts Tripplet has closed with two straight 71's. Considering he has a 4 shot cushion as well as a poor final round scoring average Sluman is a 'play against'. Tripplet with his steady play this week and last is the play, taking Kirk Triplett -105 2 units

other matchups I've researched but have yet to play on, I'll drop these for your perusal:

#3 J P Hayes vs Steve Lowery (Greater Milwaukee Open 4th Round Matchup) 10:46 am
J P Hayes -110
Steve Lowery -110

JP Hayes 63/2001, 69/2000 on Sunday and owns a 70.0 final round scoring average coming into this week he has shot 72,71,67,67,74 his L5 Sunday final rounds.

What catches my eye in his play this week is that he is averaging 1.56 PPG and had 23 putts Saturday against a 1.74 average on the year with 27.87 putts per round, just seems he could be ripe for a 'normal' putting round and shoot who knows what? Still like Hayes though.

Steve Lowery also went low on Sunday in 2001 shooting 64 but otherwise this year he has not blown me away in the final round with a 72.09 final round average. Lowery has broke 70 only once in his L5 tourneys and is +5 strokes cumulative going from Saturday to Sunday in that stretch or +1.0 strokes per round Sat. to Sun. Of relative interest Lowery tied the course record of 61 in 1999........on Sunday to tie for 4th.

#5 Tim Herron vs Kenny Perry (Greater Milwaukee Open 4th Round Matchup) 10:28 am
Tim Herron -110
Kenny Perry -110

Perry who avgs. 71.29 for the final round shot 70/2001 here and of note only 2 out of his L5 rounds were under par, and only 5 final rounds out of 14 total has he broken 70.

Herron shot 67/2001 and plays to a cumulative final round average of 72.13 of course the last few starts are more representative of his current level of play and 'Lumpy' has broken par in 3 of his L5 final rounds on Tour. His last two wourneys Tim shot 70/Hartford and 68 at the St. Judes. Lumpy is worth a look here but life and especially golf being so unpredictable has me at odds with which side to take, probably end up with a headache instead.

#7 Bob May vs David Peoples (Greater Milwaukee Open 4th Round Matchup) 10:37 am
Bob May +100
David Peoples -120

quick #'s on these fellows

May DNP in 2001 and in his last 5 starts he has shot under 70 just once. (he is +5 cumulative his L5 tourneys or +1.0 strokes per round going from Sat. to Sun.) May averages 70.11 in the final round.

Peoples came in Sunday in 2001 with a 67 and is in a stretch where he is under par 3 out of his last 5 final rounds. Peoples himself averages 70.69 in the final round. Peoples looks good.

Just been hitting it hard on the PGA getting ready for the British should have all the kinks worked out nicely by then, and hitting the ball the way I like to

Lots of gibberish, but that's what I cut and pasted from Jim Feist's site, so that's what you get. (ed. note: disregard that last statement) I mainly post at Covers.com's forum, but it's cool to see a serious golf board.

Couldn't stay away from Lumpy, layed a 1 unit play on Herron -105. Looking at some of the previous posts I see a bit of futures plays- not my easiest gauge, I enjoy the head to head tourney and single round matches. Looking forward to the real Open next week, I must say I'm impressed with the forum and look forward to adding something if I can.
