Kansas -9 over Texas *****
KU can clinch there 13th,14,15th or what ever Big 12 title..tied tonite...win is outright champ...
Texas has some major problems with Bamba might not play...he has a sore toe and he might sit out tonite to save him for West Vir game on Saturday...Longhorns are not on the bubble the bubble burst already....they could get some CPR by beating Kansas and West Vir in their 2 final games..but that's not happening...they also have been playing w/o their top scorer and 3 pt shooter for 3-4 weeks with Jones who has leukemia....they are left with Davis their next best 3 pt shooter who avgs 8 pts a game...but Yahoo has benched him for taking $1500 from an agent...I am amazed he got $1500....
Longhorns did beat Ok St at the last second at home the other day....but this team can't shoot FG% at the bottom of B-12..3 pt and FT % the same...Bamba is there anchor inside..he blocks and alters shots...on defense...Tex defense is good when Bamba is on the court..Oset has been so up and down...he scores 13,10 and 21 and then 4 and 8...Coleman their frosh pt gd has 0,2,5,3,4,4,2, and 2 assists...has a lot of turnovers..Roach has been playing good...Ferbes the frosh and Young will be the 2 gd tonite...last 5 or 6 games they are avg 2-4 pts a game...
KU...its senior nite...they do have 2 seniors in Devonte and Sev M....they play 4 gds with 7'0 Azubulke ..he avg 13 pts and 7 bd and has 50 blocked shots...Vick and Newman are solid gds....Longhorns one strength os putting pressure on the ball pressing..but KU has 4 gds that can put the ball on the floor..so that negates their one advantage..and KU leads the B-12 with the least amount of turnovers...
Bamba might play but even with him he can't go 100%....if Shaka see;s him limping or struggling he should take him out...
Devonte's last game at home...he will be No 2 in the voting for POY of B-12...Self thinks he should be No 1 over the OU frosh...its ESPN Monday Nite...think Devonte has a big game and its a double digit win ..just hope if KU is up 15-18 with a few minutes left he doesn't put in some of his seniors that have never played...one Wichita St game sis enough for the year..
the
I grabbed the line last night at -9..think its going up to -11 already because Bamba is a question mark.. Bad toe, illness and Yahoo are to much for the Longhorns to overcome...KU win by 15...

Marquette -1.5 over G-Town **
Duke -5.5 over VT **
Air force +6 over Fresno **

B&1...I know Totals usually aren't your cup of tea but would like your thoughts on UNDER 139 in the Fresno State@Air Force affair this evening. I see you like the Force +6 which is probably the right Side since the Bulldogs will be playing without their starting PG-Jaron Hopkins. Not having the services of Hopkins is one reason why I REALLY like the UNDER and the fact that 8 of the last 10 meetings between these 2 have gone UNDER the posted Total. The UNDER is 6-1 in both the Bulldogs & Fly Boys last 7 games as well.

Thanks in advance for your help & Good Luck Tonight!!! :0074

D-2 Old school put up a pretty good site about AF-Fresno
I only capped about 3 or 4 teams from the Mt West this yr...never did AF so really don't know much about them ... when Joe Scott was coaching AF he was a "Princeton offensive coach"...he took that style of play out to the Mt West and drove them nuts out there...screen,screen,pass,screen and backdoor layup..eventually they fired him but e is at Holy Cross now and you know what Holy Cross is running..so there were a lot of unders back then....can't help you with that...I am pretty bad in playing over-unders except in the MAAC and Sun Conferences...
Just went out in my car and Texas sports radio is "saying Bamba will sit out...but they are just speculating ....even if he does play he isn't 100% and if Texas is down by 6-10 pts why waste him tonight and save him for West Vir...on Saturday....

This Yahoo report is amazing...if Zona coach talked about his player getting $100,000 he should be fired like Pitino...but we don't know all the facts yet....the whole amateur thing is crazy...but how do you regulate it..lets say the players should get some money ...I'm for that to a degree..but the amount of money will be just as controversial..
Bamba, you get $150,000 and 21 free credits at Texas for one yr...now Crumpton from Canisius ..you get $10,000 and if you win the MAAC another bonus $1,000.... if you get your BA you get another $1,000 bonus ....

The NCAA is in trouble I think...I know they are trying to keep everything as fair as possible..but how...and no one really has a solution..there are holes in every one....
A few years ago they put Marist basketball on probation..way back... a few years later USC had triple of the violations and much worse infractions...USC got a slap on the wrsit and Foxes almost got the death penalty....years later USC got caught again...because you are a " 4 and done"..

But all I care about today is Kansas blowing out the "sore toe,ill players and a yahoo report Longhorns...

Box,

several of us discussed this the other day re: Zona coach, athletes getting $$ under the table, etc

There is SOOO much $$$ being made by coaches (esp major conferences), schools themselves from TV revenue, free advertising "attend our school because we have a good sports team", TV networks, NCAA who seem to selectively enforce their rules and policies with NO consistency in the penalties (USC might've gotten off easy in bskb but fball program got nearly killed by ncaa), arenas/facilities, and the only ones (supposedly) not making $$ is the players...
Their 'free tuition, books, dorm room and cafeteria pass' is supposed to equalize the situation... and maybe for some of the smaller schools that don't get much attendance or tv $$ it might be a good deal for the athletes...

But, as you said, there is NO easy solution, problems with all of em...

So... we all agree on this:

GO JAYHAWKS!! (tonight at least lol) :SIB

Box:

Very much enjoy your writeups - thank you for what you do.

I actually was curious on your take on the current AZ situation and how it most certainly exists at other schools (AZ, NC, Duke, etc). I am a Wisconsin fan but been browsing KY chat boards lately - just reading. It is crazy - it is like the 5 stages of grief for KY fans. They start with "we didn't do anything wrong, we are innocent of this" to "well, everyone is doing it, so it is ok", and "well, the NCAA can't come down on all the teams and EVERYONE is doing it, so it is no big deal".

But I am certain that not "every" school is doing this - and there are very few recruits each year that take home big paydays, like the kid from AZ.

Paying players large amounts of money (and ignoring the under $100 lunches/dinners some guys had with Dawkins which is no big deal), - the only guys that are getting the big $$$ are the top 20-30 recruits in the nation in a given year. If you are ranked #153 as a recruit, you are just happy to be playing D-1 basketball at a school like Wisconsin or Northwestern.

This idea of "all" the D-1 teams are guilty of this, so there should be no penalty is ridiculous and offensive to the majority of D-1 programs out there. There is 351 D-1 hoops programs out there, and I'll bet that it is only 10-15 of them that are actually paying to get the top guys. And the top guys keep going to the same schools - it doesn't take long for word to get out which schools are paying - so that is where the top guys go each year.

It is nice being a fan of Wisconsin, as we never get the top recruits - so we know we aren't paying for them. Which makes the case of Tyler Herro (#25 overall) who just backed out of a long standing verbal committment at the last minute to go to Kentucky very interesting. A lot of people are wondering who paid him - KY or Nike (rumor is, Nike was involved heavily in getting him to go to KY, since UW is an Under Armour school, not a Nike school).

I gotta believe that schools, like AZ and likely KY, are routinely paying up to get the one and done type player. Why would 5 of the top 25 of a recruiting class go to one school in a given year? If you have been the man in HS and want to showcase your skills, and you are one of the top players in the country in HS, why go to KY and be the 4th offensive option? It doesn't matter where you play these days, the NBA will find you (Markelle Fultz was #1 in last draft, out of Washington).

But there are likely 330 D-1 programs out there NOT paying for players. Wouldn't the NCAA be best off coming down hard on the bad actors (like AZ that they have proof of), to not encourage other programs to do the same thing? And the whole "vacating past seasons" is horsepoop - it does nothing to punish the program.

If AZ (and others) are guilty, I feel that they should lose a significant amount of scholy's (3-5?) and be banned from the NCAA for 5 years. Of course, it will be important to have solid proof to do so.

Curious, since you have been a coach in a different part of the country - I wonder what your thoughts are?

The one thing that people never mention - and it is by far the most valuable to the college athlete that wants to play at the next level - the free publicity and platform to have the ability to show off their skills to a nation audience via big time arenas and national TV contracts. They are being provided this marketing - and this goes a long way towards helping the athletes obtain their draft status in the NFL/NBA. THAT is the most important benefit they get - yet nobody ever talks about this?

How tuff is Bamba? --starting to think not very. He has been disappointing to me this year-expected more out of him.

Certain top prospects get that... only 64 guys get drafted right?
So not really a huge benefit for the group... exposure, yes.
