SOUTH FLORIDA +17 ? - Alabama enters this season unranked in the polls, but this inflated line suggests that they are still overvalued by the oddsmakers! Their starting quarterback is sophomore Brodie Croyle, who completed just 48% of his passes last season while tossing as many interceptions as touchdowns with 5. Now, the youngster must learn a new offensive scheme put in by first-year coach Mike Shula, which is no small task. While the defense is still solid, the loss of pre season All-SEC linebacker Brooks Daniels is a big blow. The Tide will need all the defense they can get vs. a South Florida passing attack that averaged nearly 250 yards per game in the air last year. This offense is much more wide open that the offenses Alabama usually sees in the SEC, which can pose some big problems. Granted, the Bulls lost QB Marquel Blackwell, who passed for 2,590 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 57% of his passes last year. However, their entire receiving corps returns in tack, which should make the transition easier. This team quietly went 9-2 last season in just their second year in Division 1A, and I look for them to put enough points on the board here to stay well within this huge number.
