The top 50 college football thread had a mention of one teams Spring game being this weekend. Iowa's Spring Game is April 20th. I will be attending(unless the weather is chitty)-- and so will 30-35,000 other Hawkeye fans if the weather is decent.

Do you attend your teams Spring Game?
How many people does it draw?
Do you pay to get in; or is it free with a canned goods donation like it is at Iowa?
Do you treat it like a regular season game and tailgate?

We do.... plenty of food and beer to be had by all.....:D

I'm curious as to what takes place at other schools. I know that at Iowa State, they won't have more than 5,000 show up-- even if the weather is good.

Redsfann, this will be my first spring game to miss in five years due to me now working instead of partying. Fortunately, my buddy bluemound and many others will be in attendance. There are usually between 20000-30000 fans at the game. No admission fee, but they normally do some sort of can drive or something(optional). Tailgate, hell yeah, another reason to drink:drinky: . This is the best to see how redshirts and freshman who just entered school look. Ours is sunday, so let the smack talking begin;)

Yes I do go to the Alabama spring game. It is called the A-Day game and it will be next weekend. We generally bring in about 35,000-40,000 fans there. Last year, Coach Fran's 1st year, I think 50,000 showed up. That is a lot of people for a spring game.

Not suprised to see a couple of Bama fans weigh in about their Spring game...... Next to the Big-10, the SEC has got to have the most loyal fans in the country.....;)

Hey Dave--

Been swamped with work and the weather has started to get better so working in the garden and other spring projects around the house. Also, send me an e-mail if you still have mine. If not, get it from Jack-- need to see when you are going to be around later this summer as we will coming oyur way again.....:D

Saw an ad for the Badgers' Spring Game during the Brewers game last night-- its also on the 20th. Would you know if they draw much of a crowd? Camp Randall is a wild place on gameday but do they get nuts for a Spring game?

Wareagle- I agree, its a great time to check out the new players-- some years when Hayden Fry was still coaching and a new guy missed the play badly, Hayden would stop the game, have the coaches talk to that player, and then they'd run the same play again so the kid could get it right.

Anyone else got a story about their schools' Spring Games?

redsfann:

I'll probably be attending the Badgers' spring gm. It's free admission. I don't recall attending one previously. But I seem to recall the atmosphere in the crowd being pretty relaxed. The incorporate it w/ a party they have up there.

I believe that it's 1st team vs 2nd team, and Alvarez gives the 2nd team 21 pts(?) to start out with.

I'll write a report if I do in fact attend. I looked over the roster and I can say one thing. Looks like this is an OVER team early in the year. Top 5 tacklers are gone, and the defense stunk last yr anyway. Offensively, their balance may be in the top 10 in nation. 2 QBs that have had success, a dynamite RB in Davis, a gamebreaker in Evans (maybe top WR in nation, considering all the wideouts that turned pro), some experience on the offensive line (Ben Johnson is comparable to some of the Badgers' previous stud tackles).

Later, reds.

Mike I still have it. Will send. Badgers seemed to be more into spring game few years back then they are now. Last one I went to had about 5 maybe 6 thousand there. Last year believe a little more. I was not down at right time last year to make it. But yes even if 1000 showed up it would be a party. Come this way for some more ass kicking pizza.

ChuckyTheGoat-

Iowa's game is the same thing, only Ferentz doesn't give the second teamers any points to start. They will share players, but thats about it. It is a relaxed day for the team and it allows the fans an early look at the new players. The real action takes place in the parking lots-- if the weather is good, the tailgating starts early and goes late. Nothing finer than a day of beer drinking and a guarenteed Hawkeye victory.......

djv--

got your e-mail, not sure of when we will be coming your way, but will let you know well in advance.

AUBURN - A-Day was Daniel Cobb's day. He'll have to wait more than three months to find out if he will have his season.

Cobb, a sixth-year senior, got the best of sophomore Jason Campbell on Saturday in the race to become Auburn's starting quarterback. Cobb completed 13-of-25 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. He directed three touchdown drives and threw two interceptions, one of which bounced away after hitting his receiver in the hands. He won the Lionel James AU officially names building after Huntsville's Tatum. Page B10. Award as the most outstanding offensive player.

Campbell was 10-for-21 for 123 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Blue team, quarterbacked by Campbell in the first half and Cobb in the second, won the game 21-17 before a sun-splashed crowd announced at 33,652 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville and first-year offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino agreed that Cobb was the star of the day. And they agreed the race is still not even in the home stretch.

''Bobby and I will sit down in a few days and make a decision on who we will give the reins to, if anybody,'' Tuberville said. ''If you go off today, Daniel Cobb had a heck of a day. He threw the ball with authority. He was consistent.''

Either way, Petrino said, the job will be there to be won when two-a-days start in August. Saturday's game, he said, will count no more than any other scrimmage.

''I think we'll evaluate it all and see where we are,'' Petrino said. ''Somebody will have to take that very first snap in two-a-days. I thought Daniel did a better job today. I thought he looked more comfortable.''

Petrino said it would probably be the end of the first week of two-a-days before a final decision is made.

''We've charted everything we've done,'' Petrino said. ''Right now, just coming off the field, I'd say they are really even.''

Cobb made no claim to the job. The defense, he pointed out, wasn't allowed to blitz or stunt in Saturday's game.

''The defense wasn't doing what they are good at - blitzing and disguising things,'' Cobb said. ''If they had been, it would have been a lot different.''

Campbell said he felt ''pretty good'' about his performance. Summer, he said, would be for learning and working.

''I just focus on what I need to do to get better, what I need to do to lead this team,'' Campbell said. ''I'm going to work hard over the summer in the weight room and watching film.''

Sophomore tailback Carnell Williams had the most electrifying play of the day, a 38-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He took a toss running to his right, cut back across the field and was gone. It was his last play of the day. He finished with eight carries for 61 yards. Ronnie Brown had 17 carries for 89 yards.

Chris Butler scored three touchdowns, going in twice from the 1 and once from the 2. Wide receiver Silas Daniels caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Cobb. He finished with five catches for 51 yards.

Philip Yost kicked a 49-yard field goal.

On defense, redshirt freshman linebacker Travis Williams was in on eight tackles. Redshirt freshman defensive end Steven Bouldin had seven, including four for losses. Roshard Gilyard and Hayes Mecure intercepted passes.

All in all, Tuberville said, it was a good day and a good spring.

''We're better now than we were when we started,'' Tuberville said. ''We're more physical than we were. That's one of the things we've worked to achieve.''

Wide receivers improved: Petrino said Auburn's wide receivers, criticized for much of the spring, made rapid improvement in recent practices.

Daniels, the leading receiver Saturday, spent much of spring practice with a cast on one hand.

''Silas Daniels came along and showed he could make plays,'' Petrino said. ''He had that cast on his hand for several weeks and pushed through it. I was proud of that.''

Tight ends shine: Tight ends have played a major role in Auburn's offense all spring, and Saturday was no different.

Redshirt freshman Cooper Wallace caught four passes for 77 yards. Junior Robert Johnson caught four for 64 yards.
