The cost of a first-class postage stamp is going up a penny, starting May 12. To ease the pain the Postal Service is encouraging people to buy "Forever Stamps" ? stamps bought at the current price that still work when the cost goes up.

What's next?

Yeah, f*cking ridiculous. You can put an envelope in the mail in Key West, Florida and it arrives in Blaine, Washington(border of Canada) in 3 days or so? And it costs 42 instead of 41 cents!

I hope that your 'postage' budget isn't screwed up here, spy.

Just think, the people filling your mailbox with fecking junk may have to spend a little more! The tragedy!

Who sends mail anyway (besides the random card or thank you note)?

When Bill Clinton took office in 1992, the cost of a first class stamp was $.29. When George Bush took office in 2000, the cost of a first class stamp was $.34, an increase of $.05 over 8 years. When Bush leaves office in 2009, the cost of a first class stamp will be $.42 and increase of $.08 in 8 years. THATS A PENNY A YEAR!!!!

Tax and spend republicans.

You are getting quite witty my friend--

Thank you for the compliment. I'm happy we can cross the aisles once in a while and appreciate each other's work.

ACTUALLY, it's not the price of 1st class stamps that are troubling - they have increased at fairly stable % through the years. But the cost of mailing parcels has gone up a lot the last few years. I've started with some ebay stuff recently and wasn't prepared for the shipping costs on small packages - seem to have pretty much doubled since 7 years ago.

I tell you what, if you and Tenzing both have a problem with me then I think I'm doing something right. ...err, I mean wright.

I'm not sure where I've compromised that Saul wouldn't have. I did stand up for our resident 'terrorist' against relentless blows from the moonbat guy. I don't recall you doing anything on that issue. Seems like that cause would have been right up your alley. That's OK though, I realize that some of us are men of action, while others are content to observe and critique.

It's not your fault, Eddie.

You are correct in that I prefer to hide behind my computer. Educate me as to the identity of the "resident terrorist". All are equal in my eyes.

However, I do believe that everything is my fault in that I am a recovering Catholic.

I very rarely mail anything, with the high prices of gas today even the government is hurting to make a profit.

I am shocked, shocked that a couple guys here didn't say they get paid to much. After all over 30% of work force is none white. Maybe because most are Vet's they got a pass.
It is surprissing even with computer advertising and e mail growing so fast. All the chit that still comes in that mail box.
Forever stamps sounds like good idea. I bid 45 cents. Get me 100. Im good for about 10 years.
