In the late 1950's, new Steeler Coach Buddy Parker was called into the GM's office and was reportedly told the following, "Coach Parker, here in Pittsburgh we run four offensive plays and we run them very well...up the middle, up the middle, incomplete pass and punt."

Almost fifty years later, we are being treated to more of the same.

Pittsburgh is a big red flag.

I ain't givin' up hope, but I don't like the handwriting on the wall.

Since they are gonna let "Slash" be slash again this year, and its a new O coordinater again this season, I look for the Sttelers to struggle for the 1st 3rd of the season and then get it together in time to finish 8-8... whatya think about then apples???
Besides, we get to open with the brownies on Sept 16th...an easy win, right?

Word is the Steelers have compound
problems...First, they have problems on the offensive line. Marvell Smith can't/doesn't know how to block. This leads to minimal pass protection. Secondly, even if the opposing team was anesthetized and Kordell had forever to throw, chances are his throw would be off the mark. But let's give Kordell the benefit of the doubt and say that 1 out of 5 hit the receiver square in the rib cage. Then we're confronted with problem #3...receivers (first round draft picks, no less) that can't catch.

The defense seems solid...some say no depth is the secondary (Chad Scott and DeWayne Washington), but if an injury occurs, Hank Poteat (capable) is available.

Kent Graham will probably get the axe.
Will be a toss up between Tommy Maddox and Tee Martin for Kordell's backup.

Tomorrow, I look for the supreme effort from the black and gold. I mean out and out, blue collar, molten steel, coal dust, factory sweat, steel toed boots, pierogies, halushka, Iron City beer, terrible towels, you name it. I'm really hopin' for a Hoppin' Hunky Holiday in Heinz Park...

But I ain't bettin' on it.

Go Steelers !!
