Are they any good? They won at Oklahoma and San Diego. 9.5 seems like to many points?

The Minutemen and Lumberjacks (26-5) will face each other for the first time, and both are coming off harsh upset losses in their respective conference tournaments.

UMass lost to Charlotte, 69-65, in the Atlantic 10 tournament quarterfinals despite leading by 17 at the half.

Northwestern State bounced SFA, which won the Southland Conference regular-season crown, in the tournament semifinals.

?We know very little about them except that they are a very good team and we can?t take them lightly,? UMass center Dante Milligan said. ?It?s definitely better playing a team that can?t prepare for us, and it?s also good to play new competition.?

Being strangers to each other is the only thing the Minutemen and Lumberjacks have in common. UMass employs an up-tempo, score-in-transition brand of ball while SFA runs a set halfcourt offense and plays bog-down defense at the other end.

The game also will feature a pair of conference MVPs: UMass swingman Gary Forbes was voted A-10 Player of the Year while Josh Alexander was Player of the Year in the SLC.
