Severe weather in the Pittsburgh area could affect Friday night?s Lions-Steelers preseason opener.

Heinz Field officials cleared the field and the lower bowl of the stadium about 90 minutes before kickoff due to lightning. The National Weather Service has called for possible severe conditions over the next several hours.

The teams agreed to a 30-minute warmup period and conditions are being monitored, but at least for now kickoff is still set for 7:05 p.m.

The game won?t be played with lightning in the area, so this is a story worth keeping an eye on.
