I hook up with my Boss Sun eve at Holiday Isle docks for a few beers this past Sunday after work...I have 2 days off....don't see him Monday, a day off for him as well.

Usually, Monday mornings 3 of us meet on our scooters at 10:00 am for 'breakfast' at Rumrunners at The Holiday Isle. Only 2 met as I had to leave for the mainland and Home Depot.

Stopped by the marina late Tue to dump Home Depot trash, a new co-worker tells me the Boss left not feeling good. Know his position has some stress. Asked the other guy I work with what happened on a stressful situation and it did not sound good...so I figure, that's why he left and went home.

Wed am...in at work....under construction so we are in an AC shed, his back is to me and I say.."Good Morning Gents" , a co-worker there as well.

Phone rings, my coffee is on the rail, Boss answers the phone...doesn't bark the company name as usual...sounds muffeled....off the phone turns around, looks swollen...I hear novocain '..you have a tooth ache?'...he tells me he's numb

YOU'RE HAVING A STROKE & YOU NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR NOW!!! He said he couldn't drink his coffee....

SAME SYMPTOMS TIM TOLD ME HE HAD, YOU ARE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL...NOW!!!

He called me late this afternoon and was being released...still had some slurred speech, we did have a few laughs in our conversation.

Sounded tired, his brother drove in yesterday, i'll visit over the weekend.

Talking with my buddy Tim only a few weeks ago made me aware of stroke symptoms and I urge all to search, read and be aware. Tim is 46, Boss 55...it can happen to anyone and time matters

yep, time is so important. I've had more than a few patients who went to bed not feeling well and woke up completely paralyzed. Stroke symptoms are certainly NOT to be ignored.

SixFive,

May have a question or two for you on The Boss returning to work in the near future if you don't mind.

Tim's stroke was mild, no over night stay, Boss was early am entry late release the following day. Think the Boss was above mild...just want to deal with him properly.

well, if they let him out that early, the effects must have been pretty mild. Do you know what kind of treatment he had?

They'll probably start him on Coumadin/Warfarin which is an anticoagulant to prevent future strokes. The doctor should also try to determine the origin of the clot and take other preventative measures so he won't have another break loose.

SixFive....

Boss stopped by yesterday...any other day, I would have thought he was drunk...grinning, smiling, moving around...not typical of him.

Co-worker stopped by after work, today, Boss is supposed to have an appt with cardio &/or nuero Mon....but he has to call for an appt?:scared This is the Keys.

He is on thinners (not sure what) Lipitor, chorestrol was sky high....not the same guy.

edit...outer base of his brain clot location....

he needs to make those appts. for sure. Not sure what "edit...outer base of his brain clot location..." this means???

The clot that caused his stroke could have been from a heart arrythmia or carotid artery stenosis/plaque build-up, or several other things. Finding out the cause is key so that problem can be fixed so he hopefully won't have another.

SixFive,
Had appts and various tests on Monday along with more tests today. Not sure of the meds he is on but they are plentiful. Another test tomorrow and next week a consultation before treatment in Miami.

Sounded a whole lot better today, meds have to be kicking in and a change of life-style.

One week ago tomorrow am (Wed) when we got him to the ER.
