Subway Fresh Fit 500 ? Sunday, 3:15 pm Eastern ? Fox

The second race of the NASCAR season is on Sunday in Phoenix as drivers compete in the Subway Fresh Fit 500. If you don?t consider restrictor plate racing real racing then this week?s race is really the first one of the season. You don?t even need to look at the point?s race this early because unfamiliar names like Trevor Bayne (Daytona 500 winner), David Gilliland, Bobby Labonte and Regan Smith are among the leaders. That will start to change in upcoming weeks beginning with Sunday?s race in Phoenix where the favorite is Jimmie Johnson.

Johnson is the 5-1 co-favorite in NASCAR odds at SBG Global and it is easy to understand why. Johnson is the five-time defending Sprint Cup champion and he has done very well in Phoenix with four wins, 10 top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes. There is no one better in this race than Johnson.

If Johnson doesn?t win then Carl Edwards might. He has one win at Phoenix and always seems to be right there as he has five top five finishes and nine top ten finishes. He won at Phoenix last November and he is 5-1 at Sbg Global to make it two straight at this track.

Kevin Harvick blew an engine last week at Daytona so he badly needs a good finish to start making up ground in the point?s race. He has two wins at Phoenix and might be worth a bet at odds of 10-1.

Other contenders in Phoenix should be Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin. Gordon has always been strong at Phoenix and Martin has 12 top five finishes in his career at the track. The defending champion of the race is Ryan Newman who used some good pit strategy to win last year?s spring race. Jimmie Johnson led the most laps but he took four tires while Newman took two and he never could run Newman down. It was a rare good finish for Newman at Phoenix as his average before that win was 20th place.

Looking at some of the odds at SBG Global we find that Johnson, Hamlin, Edwards and Kyle Busch are the co-favorites at 5-1. Harvick, Gordon and Tony Stewart are 10-1 while Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer and Greg Biffle are 15-1. Matt Kenseth, Jeff Burton, Jamie McMurray and Martin are each listed at 18.5 to 1.

Bobby Labonte can grab some +units for those you like to play the Zoom-Zoom circuit.

catch him in the right match-ups this year and he will be golden.

if your book has Kahne at 45-1 I love it. Mine has 22-1 and I like those odds. He's fast and starting at 3.

Montoya over Lil' E

Newman over Bowyer

Smoke over Biffle

Kyle
over Hamlin

Both my matchups last week were decided by crashes. One good, one not so good. Very suprised that there are no lines or matchups with last weeks winner (obvious fade here). Nothing against the kid, but Im betting to make money, bottom line. Speaking of money....... I dont even know how they let that maniac Robbie Gordon on the track. Hes a train wreck waiting to happen and I cringe when any of my drivers are around him. If that Dbag crashes one of my boys again, Im gonna take a dump in a box and send it to his fan club.
