from pioneer press...

Andrew Brunette, the Wild's leading scorer, left the Xcel Energy Center on crutches Saturday and might miss today's game against the New York Islanders.

Brunette, the team's captain this month, was unable to practice because of a sore right leg. He was scheduled to have a magnetic resonance imaging test. Brunette, who has 46 points, was injured Friday night in the third period of the Wild's 6-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche when teammate Filip Kuba's slap shot struck him in the back of the leg.

from newsday, ny paper......

"Defenseman Roman Hamrlik skated in practice yesterday and is a game-time decision, but it seems likely he'll play.Hamrlik on Thursday took a puck off his right knee and suffered a bone bruise. There was some concern because it is the same knee on which he had arthroscopic surgery in early January."

Lemeiux out

Lemeiux out

Pittsburg Trib-Review reports that Mario won't play today against NYR.

Pitt Post-Gazette lists Hedberg and Richter as probable goalies. I believe it. Very important game for these teams today. Hedberg doing b/b starts 24hrs apart. He's 2-2 in such situations, but excellent in last two games.

Shields in, Sharks jinx, NJ b/b

Shields in, Sharks jinx, NJ b/b

LA Times reports that "Steve Shields, who has not played since jan 21, will start in goal for Ducks" tonight against Dallas.

Shields is 5-16-2 on season, but 2-6-2 at home. His last outing was poor, and he always bounces back in next. But I doubt it will matter with revenge in Stars' heart.

LeRinkRat reposted that Contra Costa Times story saying "The Sharks are winless in their past 29 contest on the west coast (0-25-4) when the opening faceoff is before 7pm PCT"

NJ is 7-3-2 ATS on 0 days rest. Last season they went 22-8-4-3 on 0 days rest!

Sharks did beat Edmonton, barely, in that early game Jan 21. So they are 1-25-4 in such games on W Coast.

Sharks 7-2-1 at home with 1 day rest after home game

Hurricane's official site sez Brind'Amour, Gelinas, Westlund and Hedican are out tonight. and Sami Kapanen, so important to the reunited line last outing that produced well, has a lacerated left hand and will be a game time decision.

belfour in goal tonight for dallas...

also-- from orange cnty reg--

X-rays of Ducks captain Paul Kariya's injured left little finger revealed no fractures, Murray said, and Kariya went through a full practice Saturday at Disney Ice.

"It's sore, but it's OK," Murray said. "There were some stitches, and a bad cut, obviously a lot of bruising. Fortunately, it's his lower hand. It's something he can play with, without any real serious irritation. He seemed to be shooting the puck fine."

Teammate Jason York's attempted dump-in struck Kariya during the initial shift of the third period Friday, causing Kariya to miss more than eight minutes of playing time.

"It didn't feel great," Kariya said Saturday, "but it'll be fine."

Dallas Morning News sez Lehtinen's knee felt fine in Edmonton game, not bothering him much at all.

and Belfour will start monday against LA too, sez paper

Buffalo News reports on how tired leading scorer Satan is, playing his 3rd game in 3 days. His team lost at olympics, so now he's jet lagged, tired, and dissapointed. Paper sez:

"if Satan doesn't have 21 minutes worth of gas tonight, Ruff plans to move Stu Barnes from center to left wing and J P Dumont from left to right wing, inserting Chris Gratton for Satan."
