another push day yesterday. just can't seem to get a streak going, have to admit that college hoops has been tough this early season.

see five games on today's short slate that appear to have value. given my lukewarm start, caveat emptor would seem to be the rule of the day. here's the plays with a few words:

depaul -4: everywhere you look you see notre dame players saying they can't wait to get to the break after this game. can't blame them; irish need some drawing board time in order to find a way to score. blue demons having success out of the gate, and today dedicate their home court to retired coach ray meyer. expect depaul to play with some degree of emotion in the game dedicated to the man that personifies depaul basketball. this is the best play of the day imo, and will rate a larger than normal outlay for me.

new mex st +8: henson has had a chance to regroup his troops fter the utep fiasco, and lobos are finally back to full strength after early season injuries left them thin. this year's tulsa team is young and inexperienced, which should soften up the hurricane's usually tough home court.

new orleans +23: longhorns still experimenting with their lineup in the wake of the ford injury, some new starters expected today. also, since the az loss, there's been a lot of distraction in austin over the possible transfer of former mcdonalds all-american michael thompson from duke. new orleans has a veteran club, and most players have been to several top ten venues in their career. privateer coach monte towe has just returned from raleigh trip for the funeral of beloved former coach stormin' norman sloan, legendary nc state icon. knowing monte's personna a little, i'm betting that the privateers have heard some about sloan's big upset wins. towe also knows what kind of good can come to his program with a decent showing against a name team on tv. seema a good spot for the privateers with the big number.

fla st -2: leonard hamiton returns to face the program he rebuilt from the ground up in the campus facility he pushed to have built. bottom line is he's sporting a much better team than the hurricanes. seminoles win one for the coach.

portland +24-: k is still bringing this blue devil team along, and devils probably won't be blowing opponents out quite as often in cameron with their depth issues. st johns is just a bad team, this veteran portland team more closely compares to the detroit team that hung around with the devils a few days ago. portland is also a very good shooting team, with the experience to find scoring opportunies.

goes without saying that both big dog lines will probably imprive as game time approaches. glta
