The Phillies have won six of the last eight matchups. The Phillies swept a three-game series at St. Louis last year, but haven't swept a three-game set at home against the Cardinals since July 27-29, 1993.

Raymond.....

I see you're from Philly so you may already know all of this.

I've been a Phillies fan forever so won't bet the game but the Phils are at their high water mark of the year, (14 games over .500), which is a spot they have been in six times previously but have not managed to win on each of those occasions to go 15 games over. SO definitely a jinx going here that I hope they break tonight.

Telemaco replaces Duckworth in the rotation which is a definite plus for the Phils as he has been abysmal and Telemaco couldn't do worse. The Phils AAA manager was asked who was pitching the best on his staff and he said Telemaco so that's why he's here. Their AAA team by the way is heading to the playoffs so they are a talented group. Utley, their second basemen, who was having a league MVP year was promoted along with Telemaco and has already sparked the offense and made some fine plays defensively.

After slumping for several weeks Thome has come alive again and has homered in three of the last four games including the first two in this series. He is always streaky but when he's on he can decide the game. Abreu has been on a streak also and has finally brought his average up to .300. Their leadoff hitter Byrd has been on a tremendous roll and has solidified the lead-off spot which was sorely lacking. He has slumped badly however over the last ten games or so and was benched for a day and claimed to have figured out what he was doing wrong. He returned to the lineup last night and had two hits so he may be right.

There is also the Scott Rolen dynamic as he has been booed lustily in his return to Philly and despite a HR yesterday has not been effective against his mates with several K's in key spots. Should be worth watching alone to see him booed when he comes to bat and cheered when he makes an out.

Think the Phils will be up for this one as they never get national coverage and need the win to keep their half game lead over the Fishies. Hope this helps.

Ray, not sure if this helps but I feel the cards win tonight! Due theory and Rookie pitcher in pressure situation may not be able to handle it! IMO. But if you fee real strong about Texas, nail it and perhaps pass on the Philly Game!

I say cards and texas now I just have to pick one!

:D

Brett Tomko will be on the mound tonight for the Cardinals, as he tries to win his fourth straight start. The righthander threw six innings in a victory at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Tomko is 6-0 over his last eight road outings, and hasn't lost an away contest since June 11 at Boston.
