happy new year, madjackers! the nfl on new years day... just doesn't feel right. maybe some cash would help that feeling.
miami (-3) 3 units. damn near 4 units, which would be my biggest nfl play of the year. i haven't heard much talk about it, but the loss of leonard in the jets' defensive backfield is huge. they have lost both games since his injury. maybe it was all bs for the papers, but the jets seemed to place way too much emphasis on the game against the giants. after that pathetic effort, it's going to be difficult to gather themselves for this game against the dolphins.
speaking of the dolphins, what a turnaround for this team. they've covered 8 of their last 9. and i'm sure there's nothing they'd like better than knocking the jets out of the playoffs.
indianapolis (+3.5) 1 unit. the colts have finally turned things around for coach manning. i don't think they will roll over and die just to get the #1 pick.
minnesota (-1) 2 units. obviously the bears' season collapsed when cutler went down (who could have predicted you would need a decent backup qb in the nfl?). they are out of the playoffs and last week they lost their last-ditch effort to save their season, in prime time, against their archrivals. how the hell do they get up to play a team they already crushed by 29 points this season? one thing you know about toby gerhart - he runs harder than any other man named toby in the world. i say he runs over brian urlacher early in the game, just to send a message. vikings roll.
tampa (+10) 2 units. the bucs are damn near unbetable at this point. what do you mean "unbetable" isn't a word? i've said for years, as a general rule, the harder it is to bet on a team, the more likely they are to cover the spread. and it doesn't get much tougher than betting on a team that, after beating new orleans, has lost 9 straight games and is 1-8 ATS during that stretch. what a complete collapse. and they're not just losing, they are getting blown out by mediocre teams. only a fool or a smitty could put money on this team.
