Gill, Lapointe & B's tidbits

Gill, Lapointe & B's tidbits

Staying behind

Martin Lapointe did not make the trip to New Jersey for this afternoon's game against the Devils, for a couple of reasons. His wife, Tania, yesterday gave birth to the couple's third child, a daughter named Chloe, and coach Robbie Ftorek said he thought it was a good idea for Lapointe to be home with his family. The other reason is that Ftorek doesn't want Lapointe playing on back-to-backs days after returning from his hamstring injury...

Hal Gill was slashed on top of the foot and went for X-rays after the game, the results of which are expected today. Gill did not make the trip to New Jersey. ''I don't think it's anything major,'' he said. ''It swelled up a bit. I'm just going to rest it. It's a little bit tender.'' Gill said he was fortunate to be struck in an area that isn't weight bearing. ''I'm hoping it's just a bruise,'' he said ...

Brian Rolston scored his 30th goal of the season, giving the Bruins three 30-goal scorers. Bill Guerin, who scored his 38th yesterday, and Glen Murray, who potted No. 37, are the others. Sergei Samsonov got his 29th yesterday. The last time the Bruins had three 30-goal scorers was 1993-94 ( Adam Oates, Cam Neely, Bryan Smolinski). The last time they had four was 1984-85 ( Keith Crowder, Charlie Simmer, Rick Middleton, and Tom Fergus) ... P.J. Stock got back into the fight business when he went toe to toe with mammoth Rangers forward Steve McKenna in the first period. With the Bruins trailing, 2-0, Stock tried to fire up his teammates by dropping the gloves with the 6-8, 255-pound left wing, who is 10 inches taller and 65 pounds heavier. Stock, who was fighting for the first time since having facial surgery Feb. 7, gave a very good account of himself.
