The Houston Texans take on the Browns in Cleveland, with each team hungry for a win. The Texans narrowly missed upsetting Buffalo last week, but the Bills’ high-powered offense proved to be too much for the expansion team. The Browns have dropped three straight contests, and are coming off a lopsided 17-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Texans will continue to do what they do best and that's run the football. Rookie Jonathan Wells has turned into a reliable running back, and the Texans will use him for all he's worth this week. QB David Carr has done pretty well when he does drop back to pass. In five games, he has only thrown six interceptions. While that's not All-Pro material, it isn't bad considering he's a rookie who is always running for his life. We look for Houston to some success against a disappointing Browns defense. Cleveland's D was supposed to be the strength of the team, but so far that has hardly been the case. Opponents are averaging 360.2 yards per game this season, and 152.7 of those yards are coming on the ground, which is 30th in the NFL. The team's pass defense could also take a hit this week. Injuries have decimated the team's defensive backfield. Safety Robert Griffith is sidelined four-to-six weeks with a broken bone in his right shoulder, while cornerbacks Corey Fuller and safety Devin Bush are also nursing injuries. The front seven has been a major disappointment so far, as the team is dead last in sacks with just six. A main reason for that has been the play of former No. 1 overall draft pick Courtney Brown, who has yet to record a sack this season and has just one tackle for a loss.

This game marks the first time that Couch will play in front of his hometown fans since they jeered him after he was injured against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago. There is no question that Couch will be watched closely and he'll be watching and listening to the fans' reaction. He claims he'll just block out any negative reactions to his play. This coming from the guy who was crying after his last home game. The fans will probably go easy on him to begin the day, but if the Browns fall behind this expansion team, and Couch makes some poor decisions that contribute to that, it could get very ugly. Either way, we don't see a Couch racing out onto the field brimming over with confidence here. The Texans will look to put the burden of the offense on Couch by shutting down the running game, which shouldn't be too difficult as the Cleveland ground attack has been nonexistent. The lone bright spot for the Browns has been the passing game when backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb was leading the charge, but he is still sidelined with a broken bone in his leg, so Couch is still struggling alone. The Texans do have a decent, veteran defense that did a pretty good job in limiting Buffalo's offense last week. The Texans are stingy against the pass, allowing just 205 yards per game. The pass rush has also been working, as they have sacked opposing quarterbacks 14 times this season. This week, they will bring the rush again, and hope that they can get to Couch early. Couch showed that he can get rattled, and if Houston can put a few hits on the fourth-year signal-caller, it may be able to get the unruly Cleveland fans on his case. That would be a plus for the Texans, because it would take the home-field advantage away from the Browns.

An outright upset win here by the Texans is not out of the question. We expect them to keep this game close all the way and remain competitive. Houston is getting better by the week and building confidence. The Browns have no confidence at all, starting at the QB position and going on down the line. Evidently getting whipped by Tampa Bay isn't good for a team's ego either, as our research indicates that the NFL is a startling 3-20 ATS as a home favorite after losing at Tampa Bay. The banged-up Browns may limp out with a SU win, but the Texans should hang tough.
