Here are some of the things you can do to show your support for our men and women in uniform in the Middle East.

Individuals, groups, school classes, businesses and clubs can adopt-a-soldier. This effort was started by Pam Bates, who?s husband shipped out for the Persian Gulf in January. It?s the ?Hugs to Kuwait? website, where military personnel can put themselves up for ?adoption.? ?Adopted? soldiers receive care packages including such things as socks, underwear, lip balm, sunscreen and snacks from their adoptive family stateside. http://groups.msn.com/hugstokuwaitadoptasoldier

Donate a phone card so that troops can stay in touch with family members. Lot onto http://www.operationuplink.org for more information.

Send a virtual thank you card. http://www.defendamerica.mil

USO has the Operation USO Care Package. You donate $25 which goes toward sending a care package along with a personal message through the USO. You can send checks to: USO-Operation Care Package, c/o Pentagon Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 19221, Alexandria, Virginia 22320-9998

Or just send a letter. They love mail. And it's always more fun to get a letter from a new friend.

I've heard it said in a few circles that the funding for Veteran's health care was cut 25% in the last federal budget. Who approves these things and who do I write.

If you want to support the troops, we need to make sure that they are taken care of when they get home and their families are given every opportunity to prosper.

Anyone know who approves the budget in Washington? Is it both houses?

Demos have no control. They can only go along they do not have enough votes to over ride.

Dont take what you read about veteran's health care at face value. There has been long debate and issues over this topic within the military. There are a lot of concessions made on each side of the table for this topic. Programs are always starting up, stopping or changing. Usually for the better, sometimes for the worse. But a lot of times it is based on the results of vets wanting to go to different health care providers than the VA hospitals that are provided. The funding cut was most likely for the outside referrals as they are trying to keep more and more of the patients in house.
