Two suspended Tulsa football players, including the team's leading tackler last season, avoided prison Monday when a judge sentenced them on felony burglary charges.

Kedrick Alexander, who started at defensive back, and reserve Terrance Thomas were sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation, 120 hours of community service and more than $750 in fines and restitution. After two years, if they meet probation terms, their records will be expunged.

Alexander and Thomas pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary July 19. The crime is punishable by two to seven years in state prison.

They admitted breaking into a track athlete's room and stealing a laptop computer, game console and credit card. The players were suspended from the team after their May 3 arrest.

Thomas is enrolled in junior college in Alabama and hopes to return to Tulsa, lawyer Steven Hightower said. Alexander's plans were not immediately clear.

Coach Steve Kragthorpe declined comment Monday on whether they could rejoin the Golden Hurricane, who open the season Saturday at Kansas.

Alexander led Tulsa in tackles as a sophomore last year for Tulsa, which went 8-5 and made the Humanitarian Bowl. Thomas, who was a freshman, redshirted last season and did not play.
