Canucks sign veteran forward Arvedson

TSN.ca Staff

9/10/2003

The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Magnus Arvedsson to a one-year $1.5 million US contract plus bonuses, TSN has learned.

Arvedson, 31, had 16 goals, 21 assists and a plus-13 rating in 80 games last season while earning $1.65 million US with the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators allowed Arvedson to walk away on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent.

The Senators held discussions with Arvedson's agent Don Meehan, but made it clear that the club only wanted Arvedson back if he was willing to accept less money than what he made last year.

Arvedson had his best season in 1998-99, when he scored 21 goals and 26 assists in 80 games and was among the nominations for the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward.

More to follow.

Swedish interview with Arvedson (before he signed with the canucks)

Swedish interview with Arvedson (before he signed with the canucks)

Ten clubs want Arvedson.

"I'm waiting for another team that is better."

NHLer Magnus Arvedson, 31, is sought after by teams on the other side of the Atlantic.
One third of the NHL teams have been in contact and wants Arvedson for next season.

He has already turned down two teams and is now hoping that one particular team will come with a contract offer.
- Of course I'm playing a risky game when I turn down teams. I don't know if this team is going to come with a good contract offer or not.

Arvedson became a free agent as of July 1 after six seasons with the Ottowa Senators. He now has the right to negotiate with any NHL team.

In the beginning of Juli many teams were quick to be in contact. Two were turned down.
- I'm waiting for another team that is better. Partly because it is the best team that has been in contact, and partly because it's a good city for the family.

Arvedson doesn't want to name the team in question.
- No, I have no guaranties that they will make a serious offer and because of that it feels wrong to say what team that is.

Arvedson says that he is willing to go down in salary just to be able to play for this team.

You can have Maggy as we all called him in Ott.
This guy is a loner off the ice. Soft on the ice. The guy criticized the media because they were raggin on him for his poor play. He said they should not "talk bad about him when he is not playing well" What a moron. Never liked the guy and I like most of the guys on the Sens.

He should fit in fairly well though regardless of his character or lack there of.

At least you can tell us Canuck fans that he will be an addition to a rather horrid penalty kill. Please do that for us Horns.
