Is this a gift from the gods? Tarver is finished and both fighters are at 1.95. Go figure.

Any opinions.

p.s. watch out for the cruiser Alexander Alexeev in the future. Dude is gold. Ditto for cruiser Yuan Pablo Hernandez, that is one slick mofo. I'd take either of them over Haye right now.

p.p.s cant post much at the moment due to work computer restrictions. you can find me on boxrec in armagetos thread if you're interested.

Im with you on this one. I think Tarver is highly overrated @175. He's not nearly the same fighter he was 4 yrs ago. I like Woods by wide dec. Tarver doesnt have the wrkrate to win by dec and I believe he'll need to stop woods to win. Thats not out of the question. I just don't think it will happen. I have 525 to win 5 and am pretty confident.

Probably because Woods isn't much good himself. He wasn't very impressive in his last fight against Gonzalez who happened to lose to a 40+ year old Reggie Johnson. Also, if you wanted Woods he started out +130 or so, now you are taking a signifigantly worse number.

Watch the line on this one.

I put 200 on Woods yesterday, which is a big wager for me, at +106. I kicked myself for not taking it at +120ish when I saw it.

Anyway the line at the same book is now Woods -107. Tarver may end up in the positive soon.

I haven't seen enough of Woods but early analysis is mixed. I'll probably play Woods to win, and hedge to break even if Tarver wins.

I got the Woods opener at +135 about a month ago, then played him again at +115 last week when I noticed all the other books were sitting at evens. Not sure what I'll end up doing with these wagers, but they definitly had value

I'd like to get opinions on this. I d'ont know nearly enough about Woods to be confident in my play, and can buy it back easily.

I'll post our man's insights if it's worthwhile and some buds from other forums, but the Euro cappers here do a terrific job.

I've got Woods on this one, and here is why:

a) Tarver has looked pretty listless lately, and he has been fighting only hand picked/low rated opponents (probably because he has lost confidence in his abilities. I've lost confidence in him as well.)
b)Woods has been on a tear lately, and he looks better than he ever has (although he never looked great)
c)Woods has a good chin, and is willing to take punishment
D)I saw a somewhat recent fight between Woods and Rico Hoye, a lengthy and tall outside kind of fighter. Woods appeared pretty adept at getting inside and smothering a taller man with a bigger reach and a good punch. Granted this guy was nowhere near Tarver's level.
E)Subjectively, I think Woods is hungrier. The apex of Tarver's career is always going to be K.O.ing Roy Jones, and Tarver is getting old. The apex of Wood's career could easily be beating Tarver, and I think he wants it.

"the bunker"
i`ll take counter-point....

woods is gonna be 36 on may 1st...he`s not a spring chicken,either....he`s had more fights and probably has taken more punishment in his career..

he seldom(and i`m being kind) fights away from home....and this is an away fight...one wonders what the outcome of the 3 glen johnson fights would have been outside the u.k.....a draw ,a split decision win and a unan. decision loss in 3 fights...he`s only stepped out of the u.k. to fight roy jones(loss k.o. 6) and some 17-18 tomato can in poland....

and he keeps fighting the same guys....4 guys in his last 8 fights(johnson/delisle?/gonzales and hoye)....

i don`t see any tall lefty`s on that resume(i`m really not all that familiar with the british boxing scene)...i did see david starie(a good fighter) down the list...and it appears he lost that one...

tarver, after the loss to hopkins, took a year off and made a movie in there somewhere...i think you can forgive the poor performance vs muriqi....the long layoff...and it`s possible he may have been looking past muriqi...i know i didn`t expect that fight to be as tough as it was...

he`s lost by md to jones,ud to bhop,a ud to lefty eric harding back in 2000(i thought harding was almost an elite fighter back then...before he went off the deep end) and sd to glen johnson.....

so chances are,he`ll be around in this fight for awhile...

or,maybe he is done... believe me...i`m no tarver fan...never liked the guy as a fighter that much...

as i said,just playing devil`s advocate...if i can find + money on tarver,i may take the shot....
