At first glance, I agree with you, Wayne. This just seems way off base to me. And the biggest problem I initially have with it is the last sentence of the article:

"Doyle said oil companies would be able to deduct the assessment from federal tax liability as a cost of doing business."

So, in real terms, all American taxpayers would be paying for the decisions made by this Governor? Why the heck should I have to pay for both Wisconsin government shortfalls and another oil company tax deduction?

Once again...more evidence that Wisconsin folks drink way too much paint thinner... ;)

I see 5 other state already have done this. So Wis is behind. I also see are last Reb, Gov, Tommy tried for same thing. If Doyle can pull this off and give breaks to those who push the alternate fuels. Go for it did not see much mentioned about that.
All the old ways are starting to fail last 10 years.
