RED SOX NOTEBOOK

Relaxation was common theme

By Bob Hohler, Globe Staff, 6/19/2001

T. PETERSBURG, Fla. - With 20 straight games until their next day off at the All-Star break, the Red Sox yesterday fanned out across Florida to make the most of a one-day breather before they open a three-game series tonight against the lowly Devil Rays. Because the team's current foray to Atlanta and Tampa Bay is the annual family trip, several players headed north with the kids to Disney World and other attractions.

Nearly a third of the players - eight in all - have permanent homes in Florida, so some of them went to sleep in their own beds. The journey was shortest for Rolando Arrojo, who lives in St. Petersburg. Carl Everett lives in nearby Tampa. And manager Jimy Williams resides just north of Tampa, in Dunedin.

Joining the caravan headed toward Disney World was Dante Bichette, who lives in Orlando and was hoping to watch his son, Dante Jr., play in a Little League playoff. The father and son spent hours practicing last week at Fenway Park.

***Just found this in the Globe, does not sound like Boston is really putting too much thought into the big TB series. Especially after taking 2 of 3 from Atl. Their minds are on everything but TB. TB is 7-5 at home in there last 12 against Bost. Rekar's last three start at home have been impresive. TB won 5 out of there last 6 at home. And I'm not sure because I can't find the stats but if I remember correctly TB hits knucklers pretty good. Overall TB wants this game bad, nothing would make them happier than betting the division leaders at home. See Rekar pitching a solid game and the TB bats to get to Wakefield for enough runs to win the game. Would wait closer to game time to bet it because this line will go no way but higher.
