TCU JUMPS BOISE STATE IN POLLS, EXTENDS BCS LEAD
The Boise State football team?s national championship hopes took a big hit Sunday when TCU moved in front of the Broncos in all three human polls. TCU, which dominated Utah on the road Saturday, is No. 3 and Boise State is No. 4 across the board. TCU has a bigger lead in the computers ? the Horned Frogs are No. 2 and the Broncos are No. 5. Combined with the voting, the Frogs now are closer to No. 1 Oregon in the BCS standings than they are to Boise State.
CAN THE BRONCOS CATCH THE HORNED FROGS?
Poll voters proved Sunday they?re willing to juggle the top teams. But the Broncos must impress them with their string of three straight Friday night games, beginning this week at Idaho. Most importantly, the Broncos need to whip No. 21 Nevada on Nov. 26 in Reno ? a showcase that could neutralize TCU?s win at Utah. The Broncos also would benefit if Virginia Tech wins the ACC. Don?t count on a Frogs loss, though ? their remaining games are vs. San Diego State and at New Mexico.
SHHH! IT?S RIVALRY WEEK FOR BRONCOS, VANDALS
Boise State coach Chris Petersen on Sunday announced that his players will be unavailable for interviews this week as they prepare for the final (for now, anyway) installment in the Boise State-Idaho rivalry. He likes to remind his players of the importance of this game ? and the first interview ban in recent memory might be the latest ploy. Petersen?s weekly press conference is Monday. The Broncos and Vandals clash at 7 p.m. MST Friday in the Kibbie Dome (ESPN2).
