Still in the fight for a spot in March?s Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, the Tennessee Tech men?s basketball team will look for its third-straight home victory Thursday evening as it hosts Tennessee State in a 7 p.m. tilt.

The Golden Eagles (11-13, 3-8 OVC) fell in their most recent matchup against the Tigers (5-20, 2-8), as TSU claimed a 64-56 victory in Nashville on Jan. 29. The loss tilted the all-time series lead ever so slightly in favor of Tennessee State at 30-29.

The Tigers are led by 5-foot-10 senior guard Jay Harris, who averages a team-best 11.0 points per game, and also leads them in assists (61), steals (29) and 3-point percentage (.426, 49-of-115). Harris connected on five of his seven long-range attempts during TSU?s last matchup against Tech.

Six-foot-5 junior guard Marcus Roper adds 10.0 points per game, while 6-foot-9 freshman foward Christian Mekowulu leads the Tigers in rebounding (6.0 rpg) to go along with his 7.7 points per game.

The Golden Eagles ? who are 9-3 in the Eblen Center this season ? are led by 6-foot-10 junior center Charles Jackson, who tallies 13.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Six-foot-8 senior forward Dwan Caldwell adds 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds, while junior guard Torrance Rowe is also scoring 10.9 points per game. A big key for the Golden Eagles will be to get their points down low. In nine of Tech?s 11 victories this season, it has scored at least 30 points in the paint.

The Golden Eagles are likely in must-win territory in the OVC race, as they are in ninth place and trail Southeast Missouri (11-13, 5-6) and SIU-Edwardsville (9-13, 5-6) by two games. The Redhawks and Cougars both have the tie-breaker over Tech.

After Thursday?s contest, Tech is scheduled to travel to Jacksonville State (9-17, 2-9) on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
