Are there common truths to horseplaying?

Like, for instance, WGH and other exotic player, how do you structure your ticket? Is there a maximum amount you'll play on a super?

i think i'm looking for capping techniques from the folks who know their stuff, and those of you who work this as a day job are more than a little fascinating to me.

(WGH -- out with kids this weekend, so no POD. Looks like lack of participation, huh?)

Rough week on the job, didn't post yesterday as I was trying hard not to miss any live ones that may recoup some d--- $. Thanks to vegas odds makers giving christmas gifts out to sport players for the conference tourneys. No gifts ffrom now on, I hope!

As far as my personal preference in exotics the amont is usually dicated by the odds and confidence of selections. My common wager is the $1 part-wheel, any where form $12 for 2/3/5 to $1 super p-w $72 3/3/5/7 when confident on chances of getting big return and things have been going my way. Usually won't play the high dollar wager unless it's with they're money or it's just the one race I'll wait for that I beleive is going to pay large. Other than that I'm not a big advocate of the win only wager since i feel if you like a 20/1 shot to win why not key on top and middle of 5 horses for $40 at a chance for thousands instead of 600 or so, then play smaller win/place or even the 1 - 3 w/p you and Jrd or griff mentioned. If your horse hits, but you miss the tri, you have still made some good change.

However, I have to throw this in, If your luck has been unbeleivably sh---y lately, you may find a SECRETARIAT in a mdn 35k claimer at 7/1 and key him on top of ONLY 2 others, then the stupid jock (Nuesch D C) runs him behind the pace, then when he realizes what he's sittng on he trys to move inside of the worst jock (St. Julien) and gets him squeezed off the rail only to have your second and third choice to come in 1-2 by a neck and neck in front of him, $568 tri if your smart enough to box them for $12. To top it off, the reason you even look at the race is because you bet the winner last time hard, and he had the bad trip. You might have even posted it here feb. 24th at 2:24pm. STUPID WGH!!!!
Shhhewww, got that off my chest again after bitchin to about 5 buddies that get tired of hearing it. ( 11th at Oaklawn Sun. ).

Hope the first part of this thred helps a bit, patternseeker.

wgh, ok, let me see if i got this straight --

Watterson Traffic is running in the sixth. I really like him and he looks to go off at 12 to 1.

An example of your technique:
Watterson Traffic with A, B, C, D, E (2$ ex = 10 bucks)
A, B, C, D, E with Watterson Traffic (4$ ex = 20 bucks)

Then perhaps a 1 to 3 win/place wager?

An exacta wheel would improve your chances of cashing, but rewards probably not as good. I would prefer something like this,

Watterson Traffic #1

$1 tri key 1 w/ 2,3,4,5,6 w/ 2,3,4,5,6 $20
$1 tri p-w 2,3,4,5,6 w/ 1 w/ 2,3,4,5,6 $20

then maybe $10 win $30 place if it's getting off around 12/1 and only runs second and you miss the tri you still profit $70 - $80. But if you've got say at least 3 others in your secondary 5 choices at odds from 8/1 and up, when it hits your returns are large.

I wouldn't play a horse named Watterson Traffic, he's sure to get stuck in a big mess.
