Media reports saying that La Tech HC, White, interested, but contemplating the job. Bruce Pearl was there and Cuonzo was there...........Is the athletic dept that bad at UT that they won't go for a big name coach? Are the facilities that bad there? I know football is big at UT, but they make money in college hoops too, at least the ladies put butts in seats when Pat was there.

Capel just got a promo at Duke to be associate HC, and he did coach Griffin at Oklahoma and did pretty good at VCU before Shaka Smart arrived. Capel recruits N Carolina pretty well, and Tennessee gets a few players from the Carolinas.

Any vol fans have any input on what's happening in Knoxville these days? Who do you think will be the next HC at UT?

Thanks!

In a nutshell, the AD & Chancellor will not pony up money. It makes no sense when you have one of the best facilities in the country (20,000+ arena), the best practice facilities in the country, and recent success.

$2.5-3 million would have gotten Shaka Smart. He and Pearl are friends and he inquired with Pearl last week. Pearl told him that with his intensity and style of play, that arena would be rocking every game. When you are talking $1.3-1.5 for a coach, you get what you get. White's style of play would help and I think he could do decent here - just not a wow hire which has become the norm here.

Looks like coach White said "no way" to UT!!

Look for mid-major conference coaches names to start to pop up, perhaps N Dakota St HC or Marshall at Wichita St.

Tyndall, 43, spent the last two seasons at Southern Miss, where he compiled a 56-17 record (25-7 in Conference USA play), reached the NIT quarterfinals twice and continued growing his reputation as one of the sport's up-and-coming coaches. Prior to the stint at Southern Miss, Tyndall was the head coach at Morehead State, his alma mater, for six seasons. Back in 2011, his No. 13 seed Morehead State team upset No. 4 Louisville in the NCAA tournament.

Earlier in his career, Tyndall spent time as an assistant at Middle Tennessee State University, Idaho and LSU.

He'll take over a Tennessee team that won't look a whole lot like it did during this year's Sweet 16 appearance and 24-win season. The Vols will be without three of their top four scorers ? Jordan McRae, Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon ? because of graduation and the NBA draft.

Donnie Tyndall - pretty good hire, 56-17 in two years at Southern Miss

Good choice, but he may end up like their football hire of Dooley, imho! Doing what he did at USM isn't bad considering where they were before he got there but Larry Eustachy helped put USM on the map for a short bit, so we shall see!!
