My wife's father was diagnosed at 49 years old. Peak of his career, about to enjoy the best years of his life.
Over the past 11 years I watched him lose his faculties, his dignity, his ability to think, speak, go to the bathroom, eat,...exist. We moved him to full time care 3 months ago.
We also watched the burden on his wife of 30+ years, slowly watching your love drift away. The most difficult part is she can never move on. While he is no longer with us in mind, he is physically. She is a prisoner to this disease and will suffer far longer than he.
If you have loved ones with Alz you know what I'm saying. If you know of someone who is hit with early onset like we do, well, it's that much worse. My wife may carry the genes and it terrifies me.
My heart aches for what I know is in store for her family.
