ESPN Texans reporter Sarah Barshop reports Tom Savage is getting the "majority" of first-team reps during OTAs.
It makes sense considering coach Bill O'Brien has consistently said Savage is the starter. The quarterback thinks the snaps are helping him build chemistry with his pass catchers. "When you?re a third-string quarterback, you?re not really going up to DeAndre Hopkins and telling him how you want a bow route or something," Savage said. "Now, communication comes in and you have to be on the same page with all of them. That?s what we?re working on now."
As well as playing well, Savage will need to stay healthy to hold off first-round rookie Deshaun Watson, which is something he struggled to do even as a backup. It is likely Watson makes starts this season.
