I have always wondered if a team would do it and they did... doing the math, it's really dumb.

If you go STRICTLY by math and expected value, then kicking is always dumb. Going by 2015 plus 2016 YTD stats (up to last week):

KICK = 94.5%. For each attempt, you get 0.945 points.
2 PT = 52.4%. For each attempt, 1.050 points.

NOTE:
2015 = 94.2% KICK, 47.9% 2 PT
2016 = 95.3% KICK, 60.8% 2 PT (YTD to week 9).

This is not about math. It's a strategic decision.

True, I have thought about the fact going for 2 this year has done very well until today when Steelers were 0 for 4 and drove down the percentage which was above 60% after Taylor's 2 pointer for Bills on Monday which made going for 2 31/51 for the year. However, typically it's less than 50% and the chances for NE to make a TD and 2 point conversion were probably 1 in 5, so I would kick the PAT and take their 20% chances myself. True if you make it, the chances go to about 1% so it is what it is...
