Louisville -6 over Rutgers **** strong play

Last yr Rutger players go out and stomp on the Cardinal logo at midfield.Three hours later, Cards score 8 td's and give the Knights a 56-5 whipping.Lesson learned...don't diss the midfield logo...A lot has happened since the famos massacre in Papa johns house.Rutgers is undefeated and has 2 of the best backs in college football.Schaino has taken those Florida and NJ HS kids and made them one of the best teams in the BE.A defense that is athletic and fast.Ranked high in many national stats.A ball control team with leonard and rice.A great TE, good sp teams and Ito a super kicker.
But....again I go back to there Qb..Teel.He is 10-1 as a starter. So many will say "whats wrong with that". But RU's ball control offense and running attack is the reason..not Teel.Ask any Rutgers fan...when he goes back to pass..you hold your breath. he throws high, low, behind his WR's,into traffic. In RU's last game vs UConn Edleman did a great job in putting 7 and 8 guys in the box stopping Rice and making Teel throw.Rice was stopped almost 3/4's of the game. Then he hurt his ankle.RU struggled vs the Huskies but won after letting Huskies Brown, a frosh gain over 200 yds.In Cards last game vs West Vir there were over 1,018 yds and 78 pts. .UL couldn't stop Slaton and White but did get many turnovers.
Looking at these teams past opponents is tough to compare.RU really hasn't played anyone...NC,Illinois,Ohio,Howard,So Fl,Pitt,Navy, and Conn.USF they struggled and won by 2,NC they won by 5,Pitt by 10,UConn scared them and Navy's Qb was hurt with the score 0-0.Illi they beat big along with howard and Ohio.
UL also hasn't really played anyone except for WV. They did beat kentucky by 20 and there proving to be a decent team. But Temple,Mid Tenn were easy. They did beat K-state,cinncy and the cuse.Cinncy gained over 200 yds on the ground on them.Cuse caused them some problems too.

Rutgers hasn't seen such a balanced attack this yr. Brohm is solid at QB.Lou's OL is big, strong and athletic.RU's defense is not that big but quick.Lateral movement is great. But Cards will go right at them..Play action like they did vs WV.Brohm lyr threw for 330 yds and 3 td's vs RU.This will be the best QB RU defense has seen.this will be the best OL they see.On the defensive side....This will be the best defense RU will have seen. The best DL they have seen.

Cards will go against the best ground game they have seen. But the air attack is not even good.RU is to one dimensional...Schaino has to figure a way to not only use his ground attack but get TE Harris involved. Also how his defense will stop the ground and air attack.Petrino has the easier job..He only has one thing stop.If Teel was a little above avg it would be different..but he's not.Qb's like that can only carry you so far ...Cards will be coming at him and keying on Rice.
This game is going down as the most important games in there schools history. Both teams are going bowling..But Louisville is the talk ..are they good enough for the national championship.ESPN,Fox etc are debating it.many could say this is a trap game..after big win vs WV,etc. I don't think so.I think the cards come out smoking thur nite.
I think Rice will be smothered. he'll get his 100 yds but I think the UL defense can slow down the running game and force the pass. The DL of Louisville will dominate the OL of RU.Brohm will have time to hit his WR's and backs..
Will be back with more info tomr nite...

Great write up Box...

For those that follow the NFL...doesn't this game seem just like the Bears of last year (America's darling, GOD AWFUL Kyle Orton at QB) going into Pittsburg and Pitt was laying 6.5 and everyone was asking why? This seems like the EXACT same game, with Orton and Teel are exactly the same. They win but not b/c in spite of their poor play.

Anyone remember that Bears game? They got stomped 21-9 (3 FG's for the Bears).

One HUGE difference.....it was at pittsburg....not in front of chicago and dubbed the universities biggest game ever.....also chicago wasn't coming off their biggest victory ever, unlike lville....you better include those in your capping......

safest bet may be the under.......but laying my money down on Rutgers makes me feel like I'm wasting my money, but most of the time when i feel that way, it hits.............I'll be at this game, with my money on Rutgers.....the last 3 college games i went too, i had my money on the correct team....lets make it 4

Louisville will win this by at least 2 TD's.So much hype esp. here in the NY-NJ metro area.Brohm is almost 100%.OL will give him time to pass.Cards RB's are decent but not great.
But this game comes down to RU's passing game. They are ranked 114th in passing.Teel has 8 ints and 6 Td's.RU's 8-0 record is a testament to the great ground game.UConn last week stopped the RU run and made Teel pass.He had 123 yds and one int.Rice had on 22 carries 79 yds.Rutgers only won because there defense scored 2 td's on a fumble and blocked punt.
Teels top WR's are a frosh and a soph. And both are somewhat "soft" but still dangerous.Harris is a stud at TE but Cards have the speed and talent to stay with him.
Petrino will blitz, put pressure on Teel.Besides him being a questionable passer he cannot read defenses.I cannot tell you how many times he made throws that hit the defense in the numbers and they dropped them.I've watched almost every Rutgers and Army game this year.Armys Peveto reminds me of Teel.Ross finally benched Peveto_Of course Schaino can't do that but you know he's worried big time. Most of the news reports are "this is the game Teel steps up". Wrong..It's against UConn,So Fl,and those teams he needed to step up.Cards wil be in his face all game..despite James Gandolfini and his boys on the sidelines...
Good luck..strong play...Cards -6

I'm with you on this one as well Box. I must say it does concern me that they opened this # so low- they obviously knew that the Louisville money was going to come in heavy- and it did as the # went from 5 and currently 7. I really think that the Home Dog weeknight ESPN game was a factor when this number was hung. However, I felt this way about the AF/Army # too and we all saw what happened (and you nailed that one.) The books are either going to rake big or get cleaned. We will see tomorrow night.

I think Rutgers will come out with big emotion (probably too much.) I think it would benefit Louisville to kickoff in the first half. If I were Petrino I would run a reverse or a halfback pass on their 1st posession. If Louisville survives the initial wave they will prevail big, if not they may be in for a dogfight.

I had this line @ Louisville -9.5. Predicted outcome:

Louiville 37
Rutgers 17

GL with your play, but didn't Louisville struggle at home against cincinnati and then the next week at syracuse....both schools qb's are nothing to write home about(Grutza and Patterson)....I just dont see the blowout after Lvilles performance last week......its tough to string back to back high output outings at this level(you see it all the time, teams coming out flat).....Rutgers is also coming in on 10 days off......defense and ground game will prevail.....Schiano will have the troops fundamentally sound........

Will Gandolfini be on the sidelines as well? The last time the Sopranos mob boss was on the sideline, Rutgers upset Arizona State in their bowl game. Just something to ponder. On paper, this game looks horrible for Rutgers, but emotion, home field, and a solid running game could make this game much closer than most cappers expect.

Dice, your right about Cards struggling vs Cinncy and the Cuse. Against cinncy I think it was Broham 1st game back after his injury. He still threw for over 300yds.also cinncy ran all over the UL defense. But there Qb Grutza who isn't to bad ran for over 75 yds on 17 carries.Patterson of the cuse also had a big game and is mobile. Teel is not.He will sit in the pocket.Think that changes some defensive schemes esp for there LB's blitzing.
Your right about maybe there will be a letdown after big WV game. I can't see it.This is the biggest game in the history of Louisville football. They have a shot at a BCS national champoinship game.On national TV...I cannot see them coming out flat regardless of how long Rutgers had time to prepare. Louisville has enough of incentive and lockeroom talk after listening to Lee corso and the president of Univ.of Kentucky. And of course you can say the same thing about this being Rutgers 2nd greatest game ever.I hope its greatest game was 1867 when they opened up vs Princeton.[think that was the year, right] i'll stand corrected on the date.
Last year Louisville dominated with that 56-5 whipping.Revenge of course is always a factor. A lot of those players on both teams played in that game last yr.But I'll take total domination and kicking ass over revenge anyday.I know as a coach after playing a team that kicked my butt the year before there was always that whipping in the back of my players mind. I had to convince them that we were better, not in our house,we played bad the nite...we made a lot of excuses ...and I coached so that wouldn't happen again..but it was always on my players mind and my job as a coach was to alter that thinking..think Rutgers is thinking tonite also...

ASU beat their ass. They did not cover though....I may be wrong, but it would be the 1st time eve? I know you're on the Scarlet D. Good luck. I'm on Louie.

this is my last post on this game.Like east carolina and a few more games for saturday. Will post them on friday..Just want to say it's nice to write something up on a game and have people with different views give there take on games. All you Rutger backers make great points and none of us would be here if we knew the outcome of tonites game. I personally would be on the caymans. It's nice how everyone respects each other with there different opinions.
Tonite I won't be able to see this game. It's my powder puff football game at my high school.Thats the girls flag football game.we expect over 800 people.and this morning on the am announcements I'm making a bet. Mr Box will shave his mustache at the end of the game if the juniors beat the seniors. So my seniors tonite need to beat the juniors.I haven't shaved off my mustache in 21 yrs.Three of my own kids have never seen me w/o it.
so the rutgers-Louisville game isn't as important as I make it out to be.
Go Class of 2007....the line is -3.
