"Big" Bob Gibson, who passed away the other day, was one of the best & most feared pitchers of all time. Would love to see him pitch "High & Tight" to today's ballplayers who take offense when they get pitched inside. Doubt many, if any, would charge the mound w/"Big" Bob on the hill but if they did...Good Luck!!! Here is my favorite Bob Gibson story as told by his old Batterymate Tim McCarver:
During a regular season game in the late 60's Gibson was uncharacteristically wild having walked the bases loaded. From the dugout the great Cardinals Manager Red Schoendienst motioned for McCarver to go out & talk to Gibson. When he gets about halfway to the mound Gibson sees him & says "McCarver, what in the hell are you doing"? "Skip wanted me to come talk to you" McCarver replied. With a Steely-Eyed stare Gibson says "Get your ass back behind the plate McCarver because the ONLY thing you know about pitching is that it's hard to hit"!!!
