Yesterday Oakland showed everybody why they will continue to be a team to be reckoned with in post-season. After losing a couple, some were ready to predict their doom. But on the road they banged out 12 hits, and the pen allowed no runs. Lidle improved to 7-1 in last 8 starts.
Today's Play - Chicago Cubs +110
Personally, I think this is the toughest card of the week. I was tempted to go with Minnesota, but it makes no sense to lay -170 on a team that has lost 7 straight and won only 1 of 10. Guzman's return may spark them, but the price is too high. Same deal with Tigers. How can you lay a big number on a team that is 21 games under .500. Lima has a big pitching edge here, but often the Tigs can't score runs and again, -150 or more, is too much. Angels, Seattle and St. Louis can all be played for positive reasons. But I will go for the Cubs in their opener here vs. Dbacks. Cubs have held their own with Houston and Cards breathing down their neck. They had a day off yesterday to think about how lucky they are to see Lopez on the mound rather than Johnson or Schilling. This is arguably their best shot of the series with veteran Tapani squaring off against Lopez. Take the Cubs.
