Yesterday's Angel victory was as smooth as a scoop of Ben and Jerry's on a hot summer day. The game was over by the 2nd inning and any doubts about the condition of Washburn have been answered. Some might wonder if Detroit has packed in it already.
Today's Play - Los Angeles Dodgers -150
I was prepared to make this one of my stronger plays, but I am perplexed over the Dodgers inability to score runs against the Expos. The Dodgers only had 3 hits in the last 3 innings against the Expo bp. Last nite should have been the time for the LA team to snap their streak and start hitting. Normally, I would never take a team on 5 game losing streak, winning only 4 of last 10. But this will be a play against the Expos and starter Pavano. Other than their current streak, the Dodgers look strong here. They are 36-24 at home whereas the Expos are 23-38 on the road. Montreal has only won 3 of last 10, even worse than the Dodgers. Expos have also lost 13 of last 19; 15 of last 22. Prior to last night, the only starting pitchers to have won games during the last 22 have been Vasquez and Thurman, both to be watching tonite. It looks like Jose Vidro is still recovering from August 4 beaning: he is expected to sit out. Expos have only won 9 of last 24 when Vidro out of lineup. Biggest drawback is Expo hurler Carl Pavano. Pavano had an elbow injury that has kept him out of action. He didn't set the world on fire in AAA, where in his last outing he gave up 10 hits and 6 runs. Even though I detest playing teams on losing streaks, I think the -150 is value and justifies a play on the Dodgers. Good luck to everybody!
