I took a bath yesterday, with an 0-4 run. That jolts the results down to just modest gains.

Tonight, I have to join the crowd on CMU. I was in the sportsbooks all day today and every square this side of Baghdad is on Duke (they've never heard of CMU before -- and frankly until Hellah's great work this season in the MAC, neither had I). I saw line had dipped to 9.5 from a high of 11 at some offshores. Went to LV Hilton and still caught it at +10. Big difference between the 9.5 and 10, since resistence will kick in at double digits. Love CUM tonight -- which is obviously a bandwagon play from Mad Jacks. I suggest we all get together and make CUM our honorary alma-mater if CMU comes through for us.

Central Michigan all the way.

I love you stuff GMAN -- always read with with one hand on my bankroll, ready to hit the windows when you make a convincing tout. I will say that if you like Duke tonight, I simply do NOT see where there is any line value. You can't possibly say this line is TOO LOW, can you? I mean we have a team here that has won 13 of 14 and covered 8 of 10 and that team is getting +10 points versus a "public" team. This game is so ripe for a contrarian (unless you consider going against the MadJacks the contrarians) that is scares me. At the very least, if you like Duke, it seems you should PASS simply because there is no line value whatsoever. If CMU drains at least 1/3rd of their threes (always a risk), this game goes down to the wire. Appreciately the diaglogue and good luck on your other games.

to play devils advocate,

central michigan has won 13 of 14 games. cruised through their conference tournament. and theyre on an incredible spread run.

and theyre STILL getting double digits.

i absolutely wont argue with you that some squares will bet duke on name recognition alone.

but theres also a good majority of novice bettors who look at a spread sheet and see cmu covering all these games in a row, and they cant get to the window soon enough to plunk down their money on the chips.

all in all, theres different kinds of squares. i know that sounds funny but im sure you can agree.

especially after kent state last year in the tourney, its not like this cmu team is some rag-tag ymca group of guys that nobody knows about.

the public knows about duke.
but the public knows about central michigan just as much.

in summary-
the game will end up being played on the floor. if cmu is good enough, theyll cover. if there is a big class difference (which is the belief i have) then duke will cover.

people really make gross generalizations sometimes about "public plays". this game really dont have a lopsided public choice. if duke is good enough, theyll cover. and if cmu is good enough, theyll cover.

kent state really opened a lot of peoples eyes last year. cmu isnt exactly doing this "under the radar" by any means.
