i thought some might find this interesting...

NFL 2006/07: The Goldsheet Predictions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AFC EAST:
----------

NE: Pats' Brady is the best QB in this division; young draftees make up for loss of Vinatieri.

MIA: Saban is rolling the dice with Culpepper, other troubled talent; but "fish" make a run at wild card.

BUF: New GM Levy, HC Jauron seeking a solid fix, not a quick fix.

NYJ: Chad Pennington, Curtis Martin are damaged goods; Mangini youngest NFL coach.

AFC SOUTH:
-----------

IND: Practically perfect 2005 went haywire; still have enough to win without "Edge".

JAC: Closing in on COLTS; need more firepower.

HOU: Moulds helps QB Carr, WR Johnson; Coach Kubiak seeking Denver-style ground game.

TEN: Good coach, too many holes; did Fisher & Chow covet Leinart over Vince?

AFC NORTH:
-----------

PIT: Young ben is 27-4 as a starter, including 5-1 in playoffs, in just two years!

CIN: Carson Palmer's condition questionable; defense still needs work.

BAL: Billick's job on the line; RAVENS ready to rise a notch if McNair roosts.

CLE: BROWNS improving, but QBs young, and climbing in this division a tall order.

AFC WEST:
-----------

DEN: Jake learnedagain vs STEELERS he must avoid folly; stay alive 'til next play.

SD: Even with young QB Rivers, CHARGER defense defining edge over CHIEFS.

KC: QB Green, RB Johnson can afford no slippage & still have chance to pass top two here.

OAK: RAIDERS back to the future with Shell; OAKLAND just 13 wins last 3 years.

NFC EAST:
----------

NYG: GIANTS shore up their back seven on defense; best balanced team in the East.

DAL: If T.O. minds his manners, COWBOYS make a run at N.Y.; if he explodes, please ignore this pick.

WAS: Can Randle El help Santana? Can Brunell make it through another year?

PHI: We saw hoe EAGLES would look without T.O. & healthy McNabb; not a pretty picture.

NFC SOUTH:
-----------

CAR: This time, PANTHERS edge BUCS; will Keyshawn & DeAngelo boost offense?

ATL: Vick, receivers must show they have advanced the aerial attack.

TB: When Cadillac was healthy last year, BUCS were among the best.

NWO: Bush is a big boost for busted city; defense, Brees' shoulder the question marks.

NFC NORTH:
-----------

CHI: With Lovie's defense, BEARS are bad news for the North; but what about that playoff offense?

DET: Marinelli'spass rushers help position QB KItna and WRs for easy scores.

MIN: Odds against aging QB Johson surviving season; neither offense nor defense intimidate.

GB: Will Brett (29 interceptions last year) regret his return?

NFC WEST:
----------

SEA: Recent Super Bowl losers have suffered; but too much talent here to predict that decline.

AZ: New stadium, new RB (Edgerin James). new attitude = run at wildcard spot.

STL: New coach Linehan has much to prove; does he appreciate defense as much as offense?

SF: Another season of high draft picks, learning; check back in 2007.

while i don't agree with everything that the gold sheet predicts, i posted this to start a discussion..

i like the denver team but imo, they can't win with plummer at qb...he seems to always make a mistake at the wrong moment.

i think balt. is better than cin., who never seems tough enough on defense for me. depending on their offensive line play to protect mcnair, i think balt. has the potential to challenge pitt. in the division.

although i've been a long time giant fan, i think their schedule will hinder them. i like dallas to win the nfc east, if they can keep bledsoe from throwing under pressure.

i'm not a michael vick fan so i think atl. will not beat out tampa for 2nd place in that division. i also think carolina will be the strongest team in the nfc with the addition of johnson & the runner from memphis.

my superbowl pick is carolina.

While it seems that Plummer always makes a mistake at the wrong time you can also contribute a little of that to his receivers. With Javon Walker in there as a solid #1 option I think things change quite a bit. The running backs always get it done and now with Walker I think this could put them over the top and take them to the next level.

Falcons lose Finnerman for the season.

Still not proven place kicker.

I smell something and it smells stinky.
